Top Of The Tabloids: Mills, McCartney SettlementAuthor: Rema Rahman

Although Mills herself celebrated on the steps of the courthouse, telling reporters she is “very pleased” with the settlement - reached by a judge since the couple could not come to an agreement on their own - a friend of hers claims Mills plans to appeal the settlement because of guardianship issues for their daughter, Beatrice. "She is not at all happy,” her friend told the UK’s Daily Mirror, “She expected to get more money than [that] otherwise she could have settled months ago.” I wouldn’t be happy either with just $50 million considering McCartney and all his Beatles earnings rank somewhere in the $800 million range. I say go for it, girl! She originally asked for $125 million, still pennies considering McCartney’s total worth. He retaliated with agreeing to hand over just over $30 million in the early months of the case, but was turned down by Mills, who later represented herself in court. The couple’s 4-year-old daughter will be making about double most people’s salaries as McCartney is set to pay $70,000 in child support along with school and nanny fees. Mills’ friend was careful to add “it's not really about the money. She is more upset about who will care for Beatrice if both she and Paul died.” Yeah. Right. What really impresses me about all of this is how she managed to weasel her way out of a pre-nup. Despite that however, Mills and McCartney were only second to the highest paying divorce settlement in British history. That holds at $96 million, handed down last year. Perhaps Ringo would like to try his hand at breaking the record? |
