Van Morrison To Reprise Astral Weeks Live

Van Morrison has announced plans to perform his classic album Astral Weeks in concert.
According to Rolling Stone, the artist will perform the classic 1968 album in it's entirety for a three night run to take place at the Hollywood Bowl on November 7, 8 and 9. The legendary singer/songwriter says that he will use many of the same musicians who played on the original release in the concerts, which will also be recorded for a live DVD to be titled Astral Weeks Live at the Hollywood Bowl. Originally released in 1968, Astral Weeks is widely recognized as one of Van Morrison's seminal works, and indeed has often been cited as one of the best albums ever released in various critics polls. At the time Astral Weeks came out, it seemed to be a record that came straight out of somewhere else. Morrison at the time was best known as the former lead vocalist of Them, who arrived in America in the early sixties as part of the original British rock wave that brought first the Beatles and the Stones, followed by the Who, the Kinks, and the Yardbirds. Them's hits included "Here Comes the Night," "Mystic Eyes," and most famously "Gloria." Prior to Astral Weeks, Morrison had also scored a hit as a solo artist with "Brown Eyed Girl." But none of this prepared the music world for the otherworldly mix of blues, jazz, and celtic influences found on Astral Weeks. Morrison would go on to become one of the most revered singer/songwriters of his generation with Moondance, and a string of great albums that continues to the present day. RELATED: them, van morrison

The concerts at the Hollywood Bowl will also reunite Van with some of musicians that played on Astral Weeks and early 70s.
