Voila! Smashing Pumpkins Reveal Album Title, Tour Info

Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin are the two sole survivors left of the Smashing Pumpkins ensemble that had us rock with thought during the '90s. It should please fans to know that they have confirmed that the name of their upcoming album will be Zeitgeist.

This will be the Pumpkins' first new material since 2000's Machina/The Machines of God.

As per Billboard, the duo has been working in the studio with producers Terry Date and Thomas Barker. It's not clear what the precise meaning behind Zeitgeist is; is it possible Corgan is admitting that his band was merely a byproduct of a certain time period? Probably not. It's more likely he was just looking for a big word.

The Pumpkins have announced dates for their first live performance of the summer at Germany's Rock am Ring festival in June. You can also catch them at Austria's Nova Rock Festival on June 15 and Switzerland's Greenfield Festival two days later.

Corgan wrote on the bands' MySpace page last month that, "For many years there were private laments about opportunities missed and hearts so broken, but no more ... we have turned the page and moved on, from places and faces, names and games."

I know, I have no idea what he's talking about either, but it should be nice to hear what new sounds (if any) he can conjure up. Remember, he was really good at one time.
