Grammy nominee Amy Winehouse was arrested in London on Monday in association with trouble plagued husband Blake Fielder-Civil’s attempt to tamper with a witness connected to his criminal case according to the BBC. Though it is unclear whether or not Winehouse was aware of hubby Fielder-Civil’s alleged effort to bribe bartender James King with a large sum of money in exchange for King’s dropping of assault charges against him, police are interested in how Fielder-Civil, a music video worker with no known income independent of his wife’s, planned to pony up the purported $400,000 bribe. Police have visited Winehouse’s accountants, the esteemed London based Smallfield Cody firm, and confiscated the singer’s bank statements in order to examine a potential link between Winehouse and her husband’s pay off scheme. Fielder-Civil was arrested, along with five other men, after a raid on the couples’ home last month. Winehouse canceled her remaining tour dates with a statement saying she could not perform while her husband remained in incarcerated.
Winehouse voluntarily showed up for questioning and was arrested as a formality required by British law. She was released later the same day after answering questions regarding her finances, being fingerprinted, and providing a DNA sample. She is scheduled to return to police custody in March for more questioning and will possibly be called as a witness in her husband’s trail, tentatively planned for June.
For a girl who was photographed running down the chilly streets of nighttime London shirtless, Winehouse seems to be acting with some sense in regards to her husband’s trial. While the fact that Winehouse didn’t go all Clockwork Orange on the British police is a disappointment to this writer, at least she can check “get arrested twice” (Winehouse and Fielder-Civil were arrested in Norway in October for possession of cannabis, but only paid a fine) off her list of things to do before she flames out in a cloud of crack smoke courtesy of new pal Pete Doherty.
