Yes To Tour, No To Vocalist Jon Anderson

By Glen Boyd: 2008-09-11 03:18:48
Yes To Tour, No To Vocalist Jon Anderson Despite recent reports casting doubt on the rumored reunion tours of venerable rock warhorses Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, classic rock fans may yet find reason to go online and renew their Ticketmaster accounts.

It appears that progressive rockers Yes, who earlier this year had to cancel their 40th anniversary tour when vocalist Jon Anderson fell ill with an acute respiratory ailment, will be heading back out on the road after all.

Taking a cue from fellow classic rock band Journey -- who have done just fine playing sheds this summer with a Steve Perry soundalike -- Yes have recruited what bassist Chris Squire calls an “understudy” in replacement vocalist Benoit David. As was the case with Journey’s Ariel Peneda, Benoit was recruited after Squire heard the singer playing in a Yes tribute band.

Personnel changes are of course nothing new to Yes, who have shifted members over the years with the frequency of a real life Spinal Tap. But aside from a brief period in the early eighties when Trevor Horn replaced him, Anderson has always been the voice of Yes.

Squire assures fans that he hopes for Anderson to rejoin the band once his health improves. In the meantime, Benoit David will join mainstays Squire, guitarist Steve Howe, and Alan White when the band launches it’s In The Present tour Nov. 4 in Ontario, Canada.
