Admit it, you forgave Zach de la Rocha for all those years of neglect when you heard Rage Against the Machine was reuniting to play Coachella last year. You forgave him for Renegades being a glorified cover album. You even forgave him for letting the rest of the band frolick with Chris Cornell. You put on a big smile when you heard they were continuing to tour after Coachella and, sure, you meant it, but deep down you were still muttering curses that he has yet to release a highly-anticipated solo album. Mutter no more, my friend.
According to, well, everyone, Zach de la Rocha will release an album of new music on July 21. Of this year. Zach has teamed up with the former drummer from The Mars Volta, Jon Theodore, to form One Day As A Lion, i.e. the best rock-rap singer has joined forces with the best prog-metal drummer to create what could be the best album of the year and, perhaps, a new genre. You’re damn right, I said it: new genre.
Don’t believe me? Here’s the statement the band issued about the album: “It’s a sonic reflection of the visceral tension between a picturesque fabricated cultural landscape, and the brutal socioeconomic realities it attempts to mask.” Put down the dictionary, I’ll translate: Holy Shit!
Here’s the track list for One Day As A Lion:
“Wild International”
“Ocean View”
“Last Letter”
“If You Fear Dying”
“One Day As A Lion”

Bands who try to impress people with dramatic strings of pseudo-poetic jargon are sonically reflecting the viscerated picturesque fabricated cultural socioeconomic B.S. they fart out when they are stoned.
