Jason Bonham, Zeppelin’s drummer and the son of former band member John Bonham, has confirmed that the band has gone into the studio to record some new material, but their ethereal vocalist, Robert Plant is no where to be found. That’s right. You heard it here. There have been tracks added to an impending Zep release and as of late, Plant hasn’t been involved at all. As far as Bonham is concerned, however, all he can do is live in the moment: “At the moment, all I know is I have the great pleasure to go and jam with the two guys and start work on some material. When I get there (in the studio) I never ask any questions. If I get a phone call to go and play, I enjoy every moment of it.” As PC as he’s trying to be (or oblivious, take your pick), from the point of view of an almost obsessive Led Zeppelin fan, I find this to be one of the most noxious bits of news I’ve heard since I learned that Mariah Carey had gone through a phase in which she called herself “MiMi”. It’s all very quite disturbing. I just hope and pray that Plant makes an appearance quickly so fans get a chance to hear that earth-shattering voice once again.
