Alvin And The Chipmunks Reunite To Confused ReliefAuthor: Peter Kimmich

It is with an overwhelming sense of relief – mixed with some befuddlement and a few lingering questions – that I report the long-awaited reuniting of decades-old rock group the Chipmunks with their wayward front man, Alvin.
After a long and painful estrangement of about a week, during which longtime producer David Seville was forced to audition alternative singers, the often troubled Alvin has finally reconciled with his former bandmates. The trio were spotted at the Ivy in Los Angeles recently, and have since been seen cruising in their sweet ride. The thankful reunion follows the completion of the band’s new release, Undeniable, an explorative collection that runs through a few covers, including Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” and “Rock and Roll” by Led Zeppelin. Because as long as those guys aren’t doing it, these guys might as well. The trademark pitch-perfect harmonies are as intact as they were when Ross Bagdasarian, Sr. founded the group in 1958 with their breakout holiday single, “The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late).” In keeping with their 50-year tradition, the Chipmunks have included a new holiday number, “Ho Ho Ho,” which is not about Lindsay Lohan. The album has been introduced to the YouTube community by way of a video for the single, “Shake Your Groove Thing,” featuring Drew Steely, whom I pity for being continuously upstaged by rodents. You can check out the video here, compliments of Alvin, Simon and Theodore. |
