Jack Johnson Not Playing A Really Good Festival

In keeping track of festival announcements since rumblings started making their way on to the net in January, I’ve been waiting for that “ah-ha” moment to mark my calendar. It seems I’ve finally stumbled upon one that could prove this summer concert season is not entirely lost on one certain master of sleepy acoustic monotony.

Coachella has been the best of the bunch as it always is, but it doesn’t match its former years. I’d still be pressed to see the Lollapalooza and Virgin Festival lineups and please, don’t even get me started on All Points West. You give the East Coast a festival, fine. You give us two nights of Radiohead, great. But it’s nowhere near enough to make me want to spend the weekend in New Jersey, and I fucking live here.

Anyway, call it the reunion of bands I actually find worth seeing, or the absence of said sleepy master, but R.E.M, The Cure, The Breeders and the Flaming Lips finally sounds like a round of bands I find worth those $12 Bud Lights.

Rounding out the Quincy, Wash. Festival taking place over Memorial Day weekend are the National, the Hives, Modest Mouse, Jaime Lidell, Battles, Rogue Wave, M.I.A, the New Pornographers, and Beirut. Even after an initial coast of $150 for all three days, I’d say this is the place to be. For a full lineup, visit the official page.
