Sid and Nancy themselves proved that the world of punk is forever plagued by tragedy.

According to Rolling Stone, Linda S. Stein, a New York City real estate agent who helped foster the careers of punk pioneers the Ramones as their co-manager, is dead at 62. Stein was found dead in the kitchen of her Manhattan apartment on Tuesday night, says Music-News.com. After an autopsy revealed she had died from blunt force trauma to the head and neck, police ruled the death a homicide and have launched an investigation. There were no signs of forced entry to her Fifth Avenue home.

As the wife of Sire Records head Seymour Stein in the ‘70s, Stein helped the Ramones secure a series of landmark concerts in Britain, says Rolling Stone. She was also deep into the music scene at the time, as her husband’s label housed artists Talking Heads, Madonna and the B-52’s, among others.

Elton John considered Stein a dear friend for nearly four decades, Rolling Stone revealed. In a statement yesterday, John said, “I’m absolutely shocked and upset. She’s been a friend for over thirty-seven years and will be greatly missed.”

Though she and her husband divorced in the late ‘70s, Stein had a very successful career as a real estate broker after leaving the music biz, selling properties to some of the biggest names in all industries. She is survived by two daughters and a granddaughter.

Hats and studded belts off to this major behind the scenes player in the career of the Ramones. To quote the boys themselves, “I remember lying awake at night and thinking just of you/But things don't last forever and somehow baby/They never really do, They never really do/I remember you, I remember you, I remember you.”
