The CB Music Friday Flash For 08/01/08

Welcome to the CB Music Friday Flash, where our weekly mission is to bring you the music headlines as you head out into the weekend, and our motto as always is, ladies, show em’ if you know em’.

The biggest story making its way around the horn is of course the whole media shitstorm over Ludacris and his pro-Obama rap song "Politics as Usual," which is featured on Gangsta Grillz: The Preview, a mixtape with Atlanta spinner DJ Drama. The song, which blasts everyone from President Bush to John McCain to Hillary Clinton has been singled out by critics for its offensive language (Ludacris describes Hillary with an expletive in the rap).

For its own part, the Barack Obama campaign has disavowed the song, deeming it “offensive,” even while acknowledging Ludacris as being “talented” (something the candidate himself has said in interviews). Meanwhile, right-wing talk show host Sean Hannity used the incident to paint Obama into a corner on his FOX televison show this past Wednesday night, blasting Obama for not disassociating himself from the rapper, while on the other hand saying that doing so would amount to political expediency. Guess it’s damned if you do, and damned if you don’t.

On a lighter note, Sirius satellite radio personality Howard Stern has reportedly set his sights on a film remake of the Ramones Rock And Roll High School. According to a report published by RollingStone.com, Stern will produce the remake of the Ramones B-movie classic, and has signed on Alex Winter (Bill from Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure) to write a screenplay. Stern has also expressed interest in a remake of the seventies fratboy grossout film Porkys.
