Captain America Will Fight Nazis

Captain America Will Fight Nazis We’ve just updated our Upcoming Movies section with a plot synopsis for The First Avenger: Captain America, as provided by Production Weekly. The synopsis reveals some interesting things about Marvel’s plans for Cap. It looks like the movie will be a period piece, not a modern updating of Captain America’s origins. Or at the very least, we’re going to spend a significant amount of time watching Steve Rogers before and during World War II.

Full plot breakdown: Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe,Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy's earnest plea,General Chester Phillips offered Rogers the opportunity to take part in a special experiment... Operation: Rebirth. After weeks of tests, Rogers was at last administered the Super-Solider Serum and bombarded by "vita-rays." Steve Rogers emerged from the treatment with a body as perfect as a body can be and still be human. Rogers was then put through an intensive physical and tactical training program. Three months later,he was given his first assignment as Captain America. Armed with his indestructible shield and battle savvy, Captain America has continued hiswar against evil both as a sentinel of liberty and as leader of the Avengers.

Doing it as a period piece sort of makes sense, when you consider the odd “First Avenger” title and the fact that the actual The Avengers team-up movie is currently scheduled to hit theaters only a couple of months after Captain America’s solo movie debuts. The First Avenger hits theaters on May 6th, while The Avengers arrives on July 15th.

  • how about this. in the deleted scenes of hulk, while banner is in alaska, you can see in the back ground what apears to be cap's frozen body. so for caps movie they can end it with him being frozen and than with the avengers movie start it out with him being found and unfrozen. also in iron man you can see caps shield in the back ground when tonys working on his armour. i think that some thing along those lines would work out really well.
  • Don't for get about HULK as well
  • I hope they can use some of the technique of THE ROAD TO PERDITION, ROCKETEER, and SAVING PRIVATE RYAN--to use those styles of cinematography to capture the heart and the intensity of Steve Rogers, of Captain America fighting on the battlefield, of the period that the movie finds itself.

This movie (along with THOR) will be a true demonstration by Marvel as a movie studio that it can indeed adapt its comic book characters to film in a way that truly draws people to the film not just for the action and super heroics but because of human stories that just happen to be superpowered (sounds like Marvel, doesn't it?). This will be a big test for them.

It will be also interesting how they will make the character 3-dimensional and more than a big blue boy scout.

  • Well, in the comics Captain America gets frozen in a block of ice after WWII and wakes up in the present day.

    Why change the story?

What a great dramatic ending it would be for the Cap movie!
  • In the comics, Captain America was created during WWII to take out the Nazis. He was then frozen when Red Skull (Hitler's top henchman) disappeared. He was unfrozen years later when Red Skull resurfaced. Kinda like Austin Powers.
  • I am confused on how this will work now that Iron Man is not a period piece. Will Iron Man not be in the Avengers? Or will Robert Downey Jr go back in time / Capt. America flash forward in time 50+ years?
