Early Draft Of Beverly Hills Cop 4 Revealed

Early Draft Of Beverly Hills Cop 4 Revealed There's a good number of troubling details in Latino Review's story on Beverly Hills Cop IV. I mean, first there's the mere existence of the movie, which we've at least had some time to process by now. But then they get into the details of an early script, which one of their scoopers somehow got his or her hands on, and the general description is "it's almost like the writers took an Arnold Schwarzenegger script they had lying around and changed the details to make it a Beverly Hills Cop movie." Huh?? And the final piece of bad news: Eddie Murphy is apparently the only one with the sense to hate this draft.

The script is written by Derek Hass and Michael Brandt, the guys you call when you need insane super-action (Wanted), a classy Western (3:10 to Yuma) or, uh, 2 Fast 2 Furious. The script they've written apparently is good with action-- "Brandt and Haas make it feel like an 80s action film by keeping the action more grounded"-- but clueless when it comes to the character of Axel Foley. "I don't know if Brandt and Haas wrote the character unfunny to give Eddie room to ad lib or if they just think having him drop f-bombs every third line is the height of laughs, but Axel Foley is pretty much a Terminator in this movie."

It's unfair to judge this as anything but an early draft, and Murphy's penchant for ad libs would likely add a lot of humor to the story. But if this movie is going to be remotely tolerable, it'll need a great script-- and this is not a good place to start. read the whole description at Latino Review and decide if this is just one sign of awful things to come.
