Why haven’t we heard more about 9? It’s based on a short film by Shane Acker, who went on to write a script turning his acclaimed short into a feature film. The movie hits theaters on 9/9/09 of next year, but odds are this is the first you’re hearing of it. Let’s change that. The first trailer for 9 is here, and it’s time to start spreading the word right now, because once you watch this will almost certainly be at the top of your 2009 must see list.
The movie is a computer animated film produced by Tim Burton and directed by Wanted’s Timur Bekmambetov. From the trailer it seems to be set in a post-apocalyptic world where mankind’s time is ending and some sort of inventor/sorcerer creates a new form of life, embodied by a character which looks a lot like a half-finished voodoo doll off on a gorgeous, epic adventure. The lead character is named “9”, hence the movie’s title, and it features an incredible voice cast including Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly, and the great Crispin Glover. But you must watch the trailer. It’s stunning. Absolutely stunning. Watch the trailer in high-res right now over at Apple, and check out a few screenshots from it below.
