Catherine Hardwicke more than proved her abilities to adapt young adult fantasy when she kicked off the multi-million-dollar movie franchise we now know as Twilight. And even though she's been unceremoniously kicked out of that clubhouse, she's still got a chance to show her stuff with another group of teenagers who are more than meets the eye.
THR is reporting that Hardwicke will develop and direct a movie based on the James Patterson series Maximum Ride, which sounds like it should be about a biker gang but actually follows six teenagers who have been genetically altered to be part human and part bird. The group is known as the Flock, and once they escape the laboratory where they were created, they're pursued by another group called the Erasers-- part human, part wolf.
It sounds kinda crazy, of course, but also just inventive enough to make a really interesting movie if done right. Hardwicke seems to have been given a second chance here-- we'll see what she does with it.
