The Wolfman Gets A New Master![]()
There’s another bad film on the rise, as director Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo) has been sentenced to remake the Universal classic monster movie, The Wolfman, with Benicio Del Toro, who will not only star, but produce alongside Rick Yorn (Aviator). The Hollywood Reporter claims that production on the Andrew Kevin Walker penned screenplay will begin in the fall.
"Mark has a great love and knowledge of film," says producer Scott Stuber. "He's a great and authentic storyteller. He looks for the truth in the characters, the scenes and in the set design. It's going to be exciting to see what he brings to the horror genre." Romanek has a rough road ahead, as most contemporary remakes and werewolf films are laughable. Aside from An American Werewolf in London, the most recent werewolf movies have been nothing more than fodder for Goth teenage movie goers (Blood and Chocolate anyone?). Despite being two down in the count, Romanek does have Walker and Del Toro on his side. If Walker can capture the muse that gave us Seven, as opposed to 8mm, and Del Toro can summon Dr. Gonzo as a wolf, The Wolfman remake might actually be something worth watching – on DVD. |
