Before they were married, Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly starred together in a movie about a man engaged in his work that had the potential to change his field, while simultaneously straining his relationship with his caring wife. And since they weren't playing husband and wife in A Beautiful Mind-- Russell Crowe got in the way-- they'll give it another go in Creation, a biopic about Charles Darwin.
The Hollywood Reporter announced that the pair had signed on to the project, to be directed by Jon Amiel (The Core) with a script written by John Collee (Happy Feet). The Reporter also includes the key description that you're bound to see on a movie poster sometime soon: "The film portrays Darwin as a man torn between his love for his deeply religious wife and his own growing belief in a world where God has no place. The scientist finds himself caught in a struggle between faith and reason, love and truth."
I'm not sure if we're past the point where Darwin is controversial, so it'll be interesting to see if what sounds like a completely typical biopic can actually manage to become a hot topic. But good on Connelly and Bettany for going the "great man biopic" route again, especially now that that pesky Russell Crowe is out of the picture.
