Eager to see Bill Maher’s latest politically incorrect adventure? Religulous doesn’t officially open in theaters until October 3rd, but if you’re in California or New York, you may be able to see it right now.
Yahoo Movies lists the film as currently showing at a single theater, the Laemmie’s Claremont 5 in Claremont, California. What’s it doing showing early in an out of the way theater in the middle of nowhere? In order to qualify for Oscar consideration as Best Documentary, Academy rules state that a film must have completed a one week run both in a Los Angeles County theater and in a Manhattan theater before August 31st. Bill Maher is angling for an Oscar.
That should mean it’s also playing in Manhattan, but there’s no sign of it playing anywhere in the listings. Maybe that means they’re staggering it, and it’ll play next week or it’s already played. But if you’re near Claremont, now’s your chance to see Religulous before the rest of the world, and if you’re in New York, keep your eyes open. You never know when Bill Maher might show up to pull the covers back on the ridiculousness of your religion.

We need to see this movie here, now. Please. I'm in Green Bay. People here worship only two gods, Brett Favre, and Jesus. Well, there's Vince Lombardi, too but the statue seems to be enough at this point. When will get this flim in our area...some of us are desperate...we may have to sink some bathtubs in the lawn and put statues of Maher in them in hopes that our adoration blesses us with the film. I'm willing to put a flood light on the tub.
