Twilight Sequel Gets Started

By Katey Rich: 2008-10-14 00:06:02
Twilight Sequel Gets Started For those of us who have been following the online frenzy surrounding Twilight, it seems like a no-brainer that the production company, Summit Entertainment, would go ahead and make a sequel based on the next book in Stephenie Meyer's series. Now the company seems to have the same faith in their franchise that the teen girl fans do, and is officially going ahead with the Twilight sequel, New Moon.

Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood Daily is reporting the sequel news; she doesn't cite any sources, but Finke is often the first to know these things regardless. Much of the rest of the article is what many of us already know-- Twilight cost virtually nothing ($37 million) to make and is setting all kinds of records for trailers viewed online, soundtrack sales, and all the rest.

We've already heard Stephenie Meyer talk about how she'd like to see the movies turn into a franchise, so you know she'll be on board. But are the hordes of teenage girl fans enough to make this a bona fide hit franchise? Summit Entertainment, a newcomer to distribution, sure hopes so.

    they should make more movies.
i would LOVE to see Taylor as Jacob in New Moon.
New Moon Rocks and it should be made into a movie.

  1. radish baby Says:

Please, please, please let this madness stop. Please Twi-fans grow up and develop some good taste. GOOD LITERATURE AWAITS YOU AT YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY! St. Augustine, Oscar Wilde, Sylvia Plath, Emperor Hadrian, Nathaniel West, Milton, Chaucer, Herman Hesse, Kipling, C S Lewis, J S Bach, Dante, Stienbeck! Heck, if you're attached to paranormal why not look at authors who can actually string a grammatically correct sentence together? Algernon Blackwood, Anne Rice and Caitlin R Keirnan are all good places to start. :) Just think of all the time and energy you could put into more productive things in your life. Instead of spending the 9 bucks to go and see this craptastic film why don't you plunk it down into a donation box for programs centered on helping people in your community? Imagine the good you could all accomplish with just your sheer numbers if you put your mind to it! The mind boggles! The world and I will be watching.

  1. Yvetty. Says:

Oh btw raddish baby, I'm sorry that twilight doesn't approve of your taste in books, but nobody tells you what to read, thanks anyways for being worried. But I think everyone would agree with me by saying, we don't care for your advice, its uneccesary, and if you don't like the way stephanie writes, then so be it. But please don't bore us with your crazy schemes, it won't work.
Stephanie started writing for herself in the first place, along the way she just got a couple of fans who love to dream.

    =]
I love Stephanie Meyer, and I don't care what anyones says or thinks!

  1. yvetty! Says:

Yeah.. I wouldn't mind them making new moon into a film, I mean I already love twilight and it hasn't even come out yet.
Yes, I must say it will be hard to see edward gone for a majority of the film.
    *tear!!!*
But I think if we can get through it, we can get to it.
Meaning the wedding and what not!
    XD
Yeah. They should go for it!
Get the cast to sign up!
    Sooon!!
    Please. And . Thank you.

    Team edward!!!

  1. Amanda Says:

Who says that people can't like writers like C S Lewis and John Steinbeck and still like Twilight?? Are you kidding me? Just because it's something you're not into doesn't mean you need to rag on everyone else and the series. God how about you take a page from your own book and grow up? Let people be and mind your own business.

  1. fran Says:

Thy had better flesh out Edward's role in New Moon or I for one wont be interested. The mid section of the book is all about Jacob and Bell and the characters bore me. In all honesty I'm only interested in seeing Robert Parttinson and if he isnt in 3/4 of the film I may wait for the DVD. If they stick reverentially to the book then it will fail. The majority of fans are Edward fans not Jacob fans so its madness to stick rigidly to the book which annoyed so many fans of the first book. Who wants an hour of the book on motorbike repairs with Bella and Jacob and one werewolf scene. I want to find out what happens to the Cullens and Edward in particular when they leave Forks. More importantly I want to see Edward's time in Italy. Thats by far the most interesting aspect of the book and it only comes in at the end! We need his time there fleshed out and a new plot line added. Millions of women are not going to go see New Moon to see a 16 year old kid playing Jacob they will to see a gorgeous 22 year old man like Pattinson. Its a no brainer.

  1. rowena Says:

i am sure there is better literature than twilight out there. For the moment, this is something that cannot be disregarded. if you read twilight there are a few lines were your like just stop it this is too much (with poetic lines). To me if anything can get my mind off the world crisis and make me believe in love and that perhaps there is a man out there (not really a vampire) who is like Edward Cullen, I am sold. Radish baby read twilight before the madness dies down coz you really won't be able to appreciate it later when the world crumbles. Not everyone in the world has access to all the fine literature you enumerated. Relax, twilight is actually helping young readers discover reading who knows after the hysteria they'll probably move on to those pieces of literature.

  1. dawanduh Says:

yo! radish baby...what kind of name is that anyway lol
i have a solution to your problem..
why don't you read one of those "good" books and leave us twilight fans alone
if you don't wanna hear about it plug your ears, if you don't wanna see it close your eyes
its simple...why dont you grow up and get a life...stop bashing authors everyone has a right to express there thoughts or visions...fuck off! ahaha mmmmmuah!

  1. Krystina Says:

I think we all knew (or atleast the Twilight fans knew) that New Moon would for sure be made into a movie. Initially I had doubts because I understand that us Twilight fans live in a bubble and are shocked when people havent even heard of Stephenie, Kristen, or Rob. But then again the people outside of our bubble are being introduced to the Twilight phenomenon through heavy hitters like perezhilton.com, HotTopic, & E!. Within the next four weeks, Twilight will virtually hit many different people around the world and essentially be a big hit film. Will the movie be good? I think so. I had alot of doubts up until the final trailer came out this past week. The amazing chemistry between Rob and Kristen+Catherine's directing+Stephenie's amazing story=a huge hit.
I'm so excited and I hope regardless of the film that people will pick up the book and alow themselves to get lost in the story and love it like so many of us have.
    :]

  1. Kat Says:

Now that Radish Baby has given us her approved-reading list, I guess we can all run down to the local library and enlighten ourselves by dusting off the classics and feeling terribly superior while looking down our noses at the literary choices of others.

A story can be delivered simply and with great creativity by the likes of visionary poets such as Dr. Seuss and hold just as much literary importance as those of Milton. And I'd wager Mr. Geisel's contributions to literature MAY actually be of more importance just for the sheer numbers of people who would list him among their earliest loves and attempts at reading. (Check to see how many people can recite lines from Green Eggs and Ham vs. those who can quote Paradise Lost!)

If a writer can inspire someone to read, to enjoy reading, and to lose themselves in a written story- I say congratulations! Why bother beating those readers over the heads and shoulders with dusty old volumes that would lessen their enthusiasm? (Certainly, suggest and pass on those important works, but don't use them as weapons of literature-based-snobbery!)

I am a teacher. I enjoy seeing my students learn to read. I enjoy Dr. Suess AND I enjoy the classics. And yes- I enjoy the works of Stephenie Meyer.

That being said, I don't think that dropping $9 at the movie theatre to see a film adaption of Twilight will hinder the ongoing charities that I already support.

Radish Baby- Shame on you for being as close-minded as what you SEEM to be trying to warn us all against. "Just think of all the time and energy YOU could put into more productive things in your life," if you weren't wasting your time spouting self-important garbage in response online to a movie that you don't even want to see!

But now that we are all suitably impressed by your grasp of literature-worthiness, you can feel terribly smug and stay home on opening night. That just means more popcorn and an empty seat for another of my friends to join me in having a little fun!

  1. cami Says:

i think they should keep making the movies, but i think they should combine new moon and eclipse somehow....it was so hard to get through new moon because most of it is just bella being depressed and being around jacob for forever. if they somehow crunched down that time and added eclipse i think it would be better.

  1. Cazza Says:

I agree that New Moon needs to be more boldy adapted. I;ve read the script for Twilight and while I am really looking forward to it they could have been less tentative with Meyer's plot. I hope she doesnt have a stranglehold on New Moon. For the franchise to take flight they need to make some brave decisions like focusing on Edward while he's parted from Bella. Have sufficient Jacob and Bella by all means but its pointless kidding ourselves. The franchise rests on Pattinson's shoulders. His charismatic performance is what will keep people returning. Edward's relationship with his family needs developing and it would be good to see a flash back to what happens when Edward left the Cullens to take up drinking human blood. Pattinson was cheesed off that he couldnt get much action in the first film so let the viewers see Edward when he was on the dark side.

  1. twilightlover498 Says:

radishbaby? yeah i got some news for you...TWILIGHT IS FRICKIN AMAZING. you probably havent even read the books so dont say crap about it thats not true. i can tell you straight up TWILIGHT is going to be a monster hit and ur crappy little books will be left on the shelf cuz NOONE wants to read them. ive read books by those authors and they suck...>:) stephenie meyer is an amazing writer, idc what u or anyone else says because noone will listen to you anywayz. so dont come on here to bash twilight its rude, and frankly a little stupid...do u really believe any twilight fan would ACTUALLY not see the movie because YOU say its crap. your out of your mind ...twilight is an amzing book series, so shut up and stop bashing it.

  1. Cullenized Says:

OF COURSE THEY SHOULD MAKE NEW MOON! AND ECLIPSE.....AND BREAKING DAWN....AND STEPHENIE SHOULD WRITE MORE BOOKS ABOUT EDWARD AND BELLA AND THOSE SHOULD BE MADE IT TO MOVIES ALSO! IT'S A NO BRAINER!!!!!!

  1. Shauna Says:

    Kat!

    *applauds*

Ditto! Couldn't agree with you more!

  1. Pholla Says:

Kat ------ I think I love you! You took the words right out of my mouth. Although, you did say it more eloquently than I would have but nonetheless.... it's still good. I concur with you 100%. Radish Baby just needs to stop. It's one thing to have an opinion but to look down on others? Whoa... that's a whole different story and it's uncalled for and very unnecessary. Anyways, I can't wait til the movie comes out and I have at least 13 other people going with me to see it during the midnight showing. Well, at least I hope they have a midnight showing.

  1. Rachel Says:

    Nicely said Kat.

Although let me point out. That at least these kids are reading rather than contributing to the skyrocketing statistics of drug abuse, alcohol intake, and sexual activity among kids their age. (Yes, they could be doing reading Twilight and doing the latter.) But it's just a thought. :)

I don't think there is anything wrong with loving Twilight instead of loving Shakespeare. Shakespeare might have been the greatest playwright of his time. But, to me, it sure is a harder read than Twilight.

  1. Angie Says:

I'm sooooo glad that they are going to go throgh with new moon.
i have no doubt that both new moon and twilight are going to be HUGE and can't wait to see them both...
    and hopefully more after....

  1. Karla Says:

Kat, you rock! Oh, and if Radish baby needs any suggestions for where she can cram that radish, she can contact me for some creative suggestions ;)

  1. Mary Says:

I believe the movie is going to do great in theaters. I know I will be front row center to see it.

Oh, and I totally agree with Kat. I believe that if any book can get a child, teenager, young adult, and or an adult to read it what is wrong with it? I have read some of the classics, and I loved them, but no other book has captivated me the way the Twilight Saga has. The book is something that everyone can relate to. You feel like you could be one of the characters. I'm sorry but I never felt that way reading the Iliad, The Canterbury Tales, Paradise Lost, or any other story of its kind

  1. historymusiclover Says:

Dude... just because we read Twilight doesn't mean that we don't read other books. I for one love Jane Austin and Stephenie Meyer. It's good to read a wide variety of things, not just classics and not just science fiction or romance. And hey for the people who just read Twilight, isn't it better that people are reading something, rather then nothing. The first step to getting more people to read is to get them to read and actual book right?

  1. Thali Says:

Kat rocks my socks. :D Well said!

  1. Wendilynn Says:

I'm a huge fan of David Eddings, Raymond Feist, Anne McCaffrey, Julian May, and many other good writers. What makes a story compelling is the emotional connection you feel to the story, and Stephenie has pulled her readers into that emotional journey of her characters. We feel Edwards conflict and fascination, we marvel at Bella's wonder and resolve, and we can't decide whether to laugh with Jacob or wring his neck. But in all of it, we are taken through the emotional journey thats dedicated and passionate. THAT is what makes a good writer, the ability to make us care in whatever fashion about their characters.

I'm glad they are doing New Mmoon. I am excited to see how they handle Bella's mourning period and Jacob's bitter development and is there anyone who doesn't want to see the Truth chapter on screen? And just like I was fascinated to see who they would get to pull off a good Voldemort, I'm highly intrigued who they will get to play Aro and his crew.

  1. HA Says:

    CRAZY SCHEMES ? lololo

  1. azun Says:

I knew that they were going to make the sequel, I am glad that twilight will be here soon. The books are so good what else can we expect?

  1. jhawkluvr Says:

STEPHENIE NEEDS TO FINISH MIDNIGHT SUN!!!!! PLEASE!!!! I cant wait for Twilight!!!

  1. Demi Says:

I love twilight fans. Some are a little crazy, but all the same I love them :). I do agree that New Moon is going to have to be altered or combined with Eclipse to get the support it will need in the box office. I am so happy they're deciding to do it though because I am dying to get to the parts of Eclipse and Breaking Dawn! Love it! And I hate EVERYONE saying that this is only a tween fanbase! I am not a teenager and I am absolutely in love with the series and Stephenie Meyer is a brilliant author and Twilight will be amazing!

  1. Nahrain Says:

I don't care if anything is gramatically incorrect or poorly edited. A good story is a good story regardless and that was Stephenie Meyer's first intention.

  1. Cannie Says:

    Um... Radish person?

    It's Steinbeck, not "Stienbeck".

  1. Mollie Says:

Radish Baby- it's Steinbeck, not "Stienbeck".

  1. Becka Says:

Of course they should make New Moon, it helps introduce the character of Jacob and what Bella says about there being a 'Jacob's Bella' and an 'Edwards Bella'. I think Kristen Stewart would be able to pull the two off perfectly.

I agree with everyone else when they say that people can like other books as well as the usual classics. I for one am a huge fan of J.K.Rowling. Yes, you may say there's not much difference but, the arguments going on between Harry Potter fans and Twilight fans is humungous. They usually say that you cannot put the pair in the same sentence because they are very different books but the fact is a wide range of audiences loves them both. People may say the same about putting Stephenie Meyer and a great literary author like Charles Dickens in the same sentence but we still come to the same conclusion. It doesn't matter about how good their writing is, how long their books are or even how many people read it, it is up to the reader to choose their own opinion and not try to surrender it onto anybody else.

I for one hate people who try to criticise other people's reading habits or book choices. If I confiscated books by 'St. Augustine, Oscar Wilde, Sylvia Plath, and Emperor Hadrian...' etc. and told you to read the dictionary for the rest of your life I would probably be faced with some very rude words.

Anyway, I am really looking forward to the film and am jealous of all countries that get to see it before me :)

  1. Madeleine Says:

Hahaha, Radish baby, you sound like a fruit.

  1. Angel Says:

Dude, about time they go ahead and commit! It's a no-brainer -- the trailer views for the second teaser should've told them as much. I'm glad, though, because at the very least New Moon and Eclipse should definitely be put on the silver screen. BD will be a bit harder (what with nessie) but seriously man, this book is box-office GOLD. :D

  1. lilg Says:

Ok, I'll leave Radish Baby alone, they've been bashed enough. I don't care if they don't like Twilight, but they're a bit pathetic wasting their time leaving comments.

What IS bugging me is all you losers who are all like "omg no Edward in New Moon what a waste, they should focus on what Edward and his family are doing when they leave Forks".

    NEWSFLASH: they did NOTHING!

Have you honestly read the book? Edward sits around and mopes and does NOTHING for almost that whole period of time up until he decides to go to Volterra. And he doesn't go to Volterra until AFTER Bella jumps off a cliff. Yes, let's all watch Rob sit in a corner and do nothing for an hour. Thrilling. (Mind you, I would watch it, :P but only cos he's a hottie.)

I don't care if you're Team Edward, I am too. But Jacob is crucial to the storyline so get over yourselves and suffer in your jocks - I want New Moon as it was intended, with Jacob and all. (Especially Leah, she is my favourite.)

So accept it or don't go see it. Any true Twilight fan would have totally accepted Jake by now. My god, we all know she picks Edward and we're all thrilled, but Jake's not all bad - he injects alot of extra humour and I for one can't wait to see it.

Now don't go whinging on about how I'm not really Team Edward, because you don't know jack. (Yes, I wear my 'Sorry I only date Vampires' badge everywhere - thank you Hachette for sucking up to us booksellers!)

Would Twilight really be Twilight without Jacob? Ask yourselves that. And just accept New Moon as it is. And finally... Volterra takes up a fair chuck of the book, we'll get Eddie back soon enough.

I am absolutely and honestly PSYCHED about New Moon. I'm already counting. (And buying my ticket to Volterra...)

  1. Stacey Says:

I think those that don't think New Moon should be made based on the fact that Edward isn't centralized in it for a good half of the book should take a look at the current conversation. Just because you may not like so much Jacob, doesn't make those that do, any less worthy to have their Jacob/Bella time. We all know how the story ends anyway. lol Besides, while I think Jacobs role will definately be prevelent in the New Moon movie, Edwards character is still very important and I think they'll flesh it out, maybe show him attempting to track Victoria?

  1. BibiBelle Says:

I'm so glad someone like Kat spoke for some of the Twilight fans and for those who like to read all kinds of books. Look raddish baby, if you don't like the idea of them making a movie out of it or if you don't like the book at all, DON'T read it, DON'T watch it. It's as simple as that. I respect your opinion about the book/film, but you - calling it a 'craptastic' film, doesn't make it any better. You haven't watched the film yet.

Oh, yeah. And if you like authors such as: Anne Rice, Oscar Wilde, etc., You should learn how to respect Stephenie Meyer's works too. She's an author.

  1. Kismet Says:

    uhhhhh YES THANK YOU.

As long as they sum up Breaking Dawn in the last 5 minutes of Eclipse, I am A-OK with this plan.

I want to see more Taycob. And I don't want to see Rosebella's Baby. They can keep making sequels as long as Robert continues to improve upon Edward's character, Taylor is adorable, and they DON'T MAKE BREAKING DAWN.

  1. VanessaC Says:

Kat- you're my hero! You took the words right out of my mouth... and made them much better and more eloquent! That was the best response EVER. Anyway, about New Moon, OF COURSE I want it to be made into a movie, as well as Eclipse and Breaking Dawn... that's almost weird to say b/c it's SO obvious-- and I think it should be its OWN movie (not combined with one of the other books as some ppl are suggesting-- there is not nearly enough time to include 1,000 pages in one movie), but I agree w/other ppl who said it should go into more of what the Cullens (especially Edward) do when they leave. I think it would be a very easy and acceptable (to the fans) alteration to make, as almost everyone (or at least I know I did) wanted more of Edward in New Moon (it's my least favorite book of the series b/c of that), and plus it'd be kind of boring to spend much time of a movie on Bella's depression, etc.... that type of thing can only last so long in a movie w/out being completely dull. And since the movie isn't all from Bella's perspective, like the book, it would be easy to put in a lot more about what Edward and the Cullens did, even if Edward is mainly just moping... Robert Pattinson makes anything interesting to watch. Never fear, though, in one Twilight Tuesday Catherine said that she most likely WOULD put a lot more of the Cullens in New Moon, so I think the chances of that happening are pretty good... This is awesome news! Now I'll have something to look forward to after Twilight comes out! (can't wait, btw, the last trailer made it look AMAZING- as if I wasn't already excited enough!)

  1. Becka Says:

Of course they should make New Moon, it helps introduce the character of Jacob and what Bella says about there being a 'Jacob's Bella' and an 'Edward’s Bella'. I think Kristen Stewart would be able to pull the two off perfectly.

    Sorry, I rambled.

  1. xluckycharmz17x Says:

For 8 days I was the happiest 20 year old imaginable. Yeah I said 20. And yes it only took me 8 days 2 read all 4 books. I may not be a young crazed female teen who loves romances but I'm weak for a love story with a twist. I love a good book that can take its reader to a place they never imagined not even in their wildest dreams. And that is exactly what twilight, new moon, eclipse, and breaking dawn have done for me. These books enabled me to be in-love like never before. Even though it was fictional it still felt real, and now I have a place to get away whenever need be and get lost in love and lust. So I just want to take this time to applaud and thank stephenie meyer for taking me to forks washington and introducing me to 1 of the best love stories ever written. Congratulations I wish you all the success the world has to offer. And same goes to the diector of the movie, I'm sure they will be just as magical as the books are.
ILOVETWILIGHT!!!!!!! And for those who look at twilight and shake their heads at it because its about "vampires" and think you don't read that kind of "stuff" you're sadly mistaken and missing out on the love of a lifetime

  1. Knight Says:

They need to start production on the sequel rather quickly considering unlike the characters in the books, the cast actually ages and any change in appearance will be noticed. I don't think Breaking Dawn will translate well to film. I am thinking the rest of the movies will be loosely based on the books as opposed to Twilight.

  1. Matylda Says:

You can not be serious. Oh god. Seriously, how in the seven HELLS are they going to manage to make a movie out of New Moon, when nearly nothing fucking happens until LATER ON IN THE BOOK, not to mention when the rising action DOES rear its little head, there is hardly an epic climax? I do not even see how they managed to make a damn movie out of Twilight in the first place. Nothing important happens through majority of the book. And then like a few chapters near the end, all of this anti-climactic shit starts that blatantly was nott even close to satisfying what I THOUGHT Twilight was going to be. This book, in brief, was a huge disappointment. Goes to show that editors only care about the quantity, not the quality. Though, I will continue to finish the series (I need Breaking Dawn now) just to see how horrible it can get. Meyer has yet to sway my mind.

  1. Leah Says:

I hate to burst your bubble Radish baby, but I love the classics and yes, especially Jane Austen! I love these books as well and I think I will take your advice. I will definitely put a portion of my hard earned money into a program that helps kids at risk. I have to tell you though, I will also be spending my money at the movie theater on November 21st. You sound like all the other haters. Jaded. You are entitled to your opinion, but if you hate the books and a movie you have never seen, why do you even bother. Yes, the world is waiting and you are going to be thoroughly disappointed when this movie does 50 mil in the first weekend.

  1. Ramona Hidalgo Says:

Yes I cant wait for this I wish someone would tell me how to get cast in this movie or if any of the other books will get filmed!
    email:bonitaangel331@yahoo.com

  1. Ann Says:

Guys, the shape shifter stuff is important to the saga. It's not only about the Cullens and vampires. The werewolves are an important element. I actually really like them. They bring contrast to the story and add something extra. To only focus on Edward denies us that. Yes, everyone will miss Edward in New Moon. We're supposed to miss him because Bella does. If we don't know what he's doing, audiences will be tense. Where is Edward? What's he doing? That was what made New Moon so great. We missed him and when we got him back it was so fantastic. Like Bella, we were afraid to let him go. We lose all that tension if he's on screen all the time. The Eclipse film will see him dazzle and shine. Giving Jake his film will make us appreciate the Edward parts more.

  1. Lauren Says:

I am going to leave a reply that you all will not like, so I am going to start by saying that I have indeed read all four books plus the leaked portion of Midnight Sun. I know what I'm talking about.

I myself used to be a Twilight lover. I used to be one of the fans like most of you reading this. I was obsessed with the books and couldn't wait for the movies. However, I suddenly realized how horrible the Twilight series is. For those of you who say Stephenie Meyer is an amazing and brilliant writer, I suggest you read through the book again and look for the mistakes. If you go through the book, you will see how many general writing errors there are. Not just grammatical errors, but things that just sound bad, as if they should have been switched around. Secondly, the books are very boring in certain areas. I'm surprised they actually made these books into movies. Finally, please, listen to Radish Baby. I know some of her points were a little rude. There are many better books out there. Sure, these books have gotten children reading, but would you honestly want them reading books that make topics like controlling boyfriends and pedophilia look GOOD?

  1. Lauren Says:

Forgot about my last point. If all of you are such fans of the book, how come some of you are saying you aren't really looking forward to New Moon because Edward isn't in it for the majority of it? That means you aren't fans of the book, you are just fans of Edward. Why you love Edward, I don't know. He is creepy, but I assume that being hot excuses all character flaws.

  1. Tina Says:

    Thank you Kat!

I am a mother, and I love the fact that kids are reading. My daughter introduced me to Twilight, and I really enjoy the books. She has now read Romeo and Juliet, Wuthering Heights and several Jane Austen novels, which were alluded to in Twilight. How is this a bad thing Radish?

No, Twilight will not expand your mind. It won't teach you about the mannerisms of the upper class English in the 1800's, it won't explore the mind of a criminal (Crime and Punishment), but it will entertain you - if you allow it to.

I, for one, love to read. I read many types of books, from the fun of Stephanie Plum in a Janet Evanovich book to the brilliant prose of Shakespeare.

Relax Radish - let yourself off the hook if you enjoy a book that isn't classic literature.

Oh - and we will be in line for the midnight showing of Twilight, along with about 35 friends. I think it will do well. As far as New Moon is concerned, if they focus on the beginning and expand on the 'best six months anyone, anywhere had ever had', and then Italy and the reunion, filling the middle with scenes of both Edward and Bella's lives apart, it could be great.

  1. barb burke Says:

Bravo Kat----couldn't have said it better myself. As an English major in college the writing in twilight seems Deceptively simple but the sweetness and power of the characters, especially Edward.,seeps into us and anchors themselves to our hearts .Stephenie Meyer has created a truly unique and amazing hero in Edward--- and makes us wish for someone like him for our daughters ,granddaughters, etc. Long live Twilight!!!!

  1. Jennifer Says:

OMG! THANK YOU FINALLY SOMEBODY FOR SAYING IT! *bows to Mr/s Radish* Bonus points for mentioning The Confessions! I thought no one else read them anymore.

  1. SEH8807 Says:

I actually kind of agree with Radish Baby.

Yes, I can understand that kids reading is a GOOD thing, and it is, but there are so many books out there that are SO MUCH better than Twilight and SO MUCH MORE ENTERTAINING.

And another thing. In Romeo and Juliet, two teenagers from rivaling families fall in love, get married, and because their families won't allow them to be together, Juliet fakes her own death, causing Romeo to get all suicidal and poisons himself in her tomb. Juliet awakens to find Romeo dead, is devastated, and because Romeo drank all the poison, she stabs herself with his sword.

Romeo and Juliet is a TRAGEDY. And from what I can tell, Twilight isn't all that tragic.

  1. ArmadaChild Says:

GO RADISH BABY!!!! WHOO!!!!! I totally agree with you! Good literature is a GOOD THING!!!!!

And BTW folks, Shakespeare is rolling in his grave because of this. Just lettin' ya know...

  1. Cara Says:

What is it with all the teenage girl stuff? I'm 40 and loved the books and can't wait for the movies. Many of my friends are excited about it too. Sequels are definitely in order. Twilight is going to be huge.

  1. Lara Says:

Ok Lauren here is the thing It IS A ROMANTIC STORY!!!! everyone loves a good romantic story So what!!! if there are Typos no one is perfect. As to why they are making a movie out of it well again ITS A GOOD STORY and Hello have you seen other adaptation to other books???? If you have, you must have seen that they make CHANGES to make it more interesting. By the way I DO like Shakespeare, Anne Rice and other authors but that does not eliminate the fact that Twilight is a Good Story. Please Don't Call yourself a Twilight fan or Used to be one... for the way you are talking it seems to me like you were never a true twilight fan so don't say that you were. And Im no teen ether Im 25 years old I love to read and that includes Harry Potter, Twilight, Romeo and Juliet, Great Expectations, Interview with a Vampire and other classics.

  1. Edward AND Jacob lover <3 Says:

I think New Moon should definitely be made into a movie! I would love to see how it turns out, and who they pick to play the rest of the cast. I think Twilight has a 97% chance that it will be an awesome movie and that many people will like it. Also I think just to make Edward and the Cullens a little more into the plot of New Moon, they should show what they were doing while they were gone. I would also love to see who they pick for the rest of the cast, like the wolf pack, Leah, Seth, Emily, Quil, and especially The Volturi (oh yeah!)! Even though I'm on Team Edward for sure, I still love Jacob and the wolf pack almost as much as I love the Cullens! So that brings me to saying that I love New Moon and the rest of the series, and they should DEFINITELY make New Moon into a movie! :)

And by the way "radish baby" or whatever that stupid name is, the Twilight Series is just as much as literature as you say all those other books are. If you actually read and actually comprehend the Twilight books (which I doubt you have) you can see that Stephenie Meyer writes EXCELLENT literature. She actually has some poetry in it and other things, like referring to Romeo and Juliet and Wuthering Heights. Just because you think that Twilight isn't "good literature" doesn't make us not like the books. MILLIONS of people think that Twilight is AWESOME and that it is GREAT LITERATURE, so all that you are saying is really unnecessary and is a WASTE OF YOUR TIME, because no one is going to listen to you! That's all I have to say and all the other million Twilight fans.

    PEACE.LOVE.TWILIGHT :)

  1. Tiffani Says:

i would love to see all of them
    on the big screen.
we all love the books just twilight fans(me included)
have to remember not every part of the book will be in the movie.
it has to be condensed. i love to see breaking dawn on the big screen.

i'm looking for some more twilight fans
    email me if you like.

  1. Laney Says:

I'm afraid for the world. :(

  1. Mnemosyne Says:

I think Bram Stoker is actually the one rolling in his grave right now...

Vampires don't shimmer/glitter/blingbling in the sun.

    Stephenie Meyer FTL

  1. Bebe Says:

At least I can feel happy for the uneducated. Thanks to you guys, good literature is being ignored.

  1. Lauren Says:

Hey guys, it's me again ... Just so you guys know, for those of you who made the false assumption that I am not a teen -- wrong. Secondly, for those of you who also made the false assumption that I was never a fan of the book -- wrong. I was a huge fan of the book. I realized how horrible of a book it was and stopped reading it.

  1. Carma Says:

Ok, I'm not a big fan of the books, but I won't say anything about what I think of the books. That's been talked about enough already.

I'll just say that I am a teensy tiny bit excited about seeing Jacob because I like him, but for me, I'll wait until I see Twilight to decide whether I'd see New Moon.

  1. lilG Says:

Did all of you just completely MISS my huge rant about how silly you're all being about the no-Edward thing?

SERIOUSLY people! Edward does NOTHING! He sits in a corner for most of the time they're apart. Ok,t there's a bit of tracking, but that's it! HE ARRIVES IN ITALY ONLY DAYS BEFORE BELLA!

It would NOT be true to the book to show Edward having fun time adventures, because he WASN'T!

How many times must I make this point? (and for the record, I'm Team Edward - but I'd rather the movies be true to the book.)

Ugh. Read New Moon again, you obviously missed half of it.

  1. M.HEART Says:

Let me get this straight Radish Baby - Your baby is a radish? Damn, sucks for you. EDWARD AND BELLA'S BABY IS AMAZING, AND SHE COULD PROBABLY SET YOUR "RADISH BABY" SCREEN NAME ON FIRE TOO! Please, I don't tell you what to read, you can click the X on the top of your page and move on with your life if Twilight isn't a part of it. And brace yourself, because you know you're going to see it anyways. Whether at the movies, on dvd, or when it premieres on TNT 20 years from now, you'll watch. So shut it. BAM! PS - Jasper would eat you alive. I suggest you read into his character. Someone like you is his perfect meal.

  1. Love Says:

Yvetty! i totally agre with you!

and i promise that SUMMIT will get the same [or even MORE] fans for the New Moon,
although the theaters might end up having pools of water on the ground, this movie
will be great. even though there's like..no RPATTZ!! awww ;]]

maybe they'll do something cool and show FLASHBACKS! yaayyyy ;]
i love Summit, Stephenie Meyer, and aaallll Twilight fans :]]

  1. krystal Says:

To all who have nothing better to do with their time than come and comment about books they dislike greatly and think are badly written- good for you.

To all who have previously been fans and now realise the error of their ways in loving the book series, because it's "horrible"- good for you.

To all who feel the need to abuse people because they're being honest about the fact that they might get a little bored with a severe lack of Edward- good for you.

I'm so very sorry that I have this thing called a mind of my own and that I enjoyed the series immensely. I'm extremely sorry that I don't sit on a chair and abuse people self righteously because I don't find what they read to be "high literature" and I suppose I should apologize for finding myself a tad bit bored halfway through New Moon as well. (Jacob was an integral part of the story- doesn't mean I had to "Love" every minute of it and I'm not "a true twilight fan" if I didnt.) Applause for Kat by the way.

Here's a fact for all you supposed intelligent, good literature book lovers though. Most twlight fans acknowledge and accept the books "faults" in terms of simple writing... and it doesn't change anything. I know you all wish you could dictate to everyone what they should be reading and what they MUST enjoy but guess what? An opinion and personal taste is something everyone should be and IS allowed to have. It's why you can read all your list of "great books" (which I have read most of- it's called having a broad reading range) If YOU don't understand that maybe you should invest in this great book called a dictionary.

  1. LissaP Says:

    God.

I do so wonder how they are going to make a film of breaking dawn I mean, I know for sure Rpattz won't agree to chew a baby out of KStew's uterus.

  1. MissAnon Says:

This is ridiculous. I am ashamed to be a young woman because of the likes of you.

But what can I say or do? You'll plug your ears and say, "La, la, la!" whenever someone tries to point out the flaws in the series. "tru wuv" is one of the most dangerous fantasies in existence because it makes unnatural demands of both men and women. I hope many of you realize that before it's too late.

Enjoy your movies. I will await Star Trek.

umm first of all, to those who are saying do something better with your time and donate to the community and what not...what are unaware of is that Twilight websites have already put together various causes for the fans...for instance there are Twilight t-shirts that when you buy them money goes to cancer and then donations have been made to the town of Forks to help out the entire town...so please do not say things before educating yourself first....and i myself do read a variety of books and admit that Stephenie Meyer's books may not be filled with millions of metaphors and alliteration and millions of themes and so on and so forth...but who are you to say what GOOD literature is supposed to be...maybe the definition of a good novel is simply a private place where you can visit whenever you want to and have fun doing it...and she can string a grammatical sentence together, who the hell is going to allow a novel to be published without it using proper English...I am sick and tired of Twilight haters.... so many people are generalizing the whole fandom into a twelve year old, fan who has no clue about anything...like i said before do not judge something so harshly simply because you just do not understand it

Wow society is sad, to think that people go to all this trouble to try to offend others, who are so passionate about BOOKS of all things? that is soo sad

  1. Raven Says:

Radish baby, ArmadaChild and Bebe, all of you should really get off your high horse and enjoy the thrills of being a teenage girl. Maybe you're not one, which probably explains why you're so inimical towards the Twilight phenomenon. Oscar Wilde's great, so is Sylvia Plath, but during that time, they were probably criticised for being too revolutionary or too self-pitying. So I think we should embrace the new waves of literature, and accept the fact that Twilight has taken over the literary scene, is about to take over the cinemas, and is here to stay. Stephenie Meyer may not be Shakespeare, but is he the only one who deserves our attention? It amazes me that despite the large number of 'good literature' you all expose yourselves to, you're still being so parochial about contemporary fiction. No-one's striving to be the next Shakespeare, but unless you can be as successful as Meyer, I suggest you broaden your closed minds a little bit and understand that good literature is possible when you allow it to be.

Anyway, they should SERIOUSLY continue making the rest of the movies. I'll watch them all at least five times in the cinemas each! New Moon is the best out of the Twilight saga, imho, and I really want to see how Bella&Edward cope with being apart, so I'm definitely keeping my fingers crossed for New Moon (and Eclipse and Breaking Dawn) to be made into a movie too! Please do so, Summit (and Catherine Hardwicke!). Twilight fans will love you for that!

    Twilighters, unite.

  1. Kykat112 Says:

Hello, some of you are not Twilighters, and some of you (Well most of you) are. First of all, let me start off by saying that Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn are great books. I know the movie will have taken and added things to it that were/n't in the book and this makes me excited and sad. Secondly, as an unprofessional writer of many things paranormal (me), these books are excellent. We are only human, so yes, Lauren, there are mistakes in the books and some sentences may not sound right, but we weren't born with automatic correcters in our brains. Third, no, Radish Baby, we don't have to be obsessed. We can read other authors. But at least the ones who are obsessed aren't obsessed with something else. Think, they could be obsessed with some things not appropiate. Yes, I understand that Eclipse and Breaking Dawn have some instances in them that may be a little *ishish*,(yes, I did just make up a word) but we are going to learn about that stuff anyway. Also, as some of you have said, the saga has introduced many great works of literature to us teens who mostly wouldn't give them the light of day unless we were forced. don't get all worked up because many girls are crazed over Edward Cullen. That's just normal teen behavior. and even some Moms I know would ditch their husbands for a night with Edward. So don't overreact. Adios. Goodbye.

  1. paulatr27 Says:

I totally diagree with anyone who thinks this series is not worth it. It is not just teenagers reading and loving the books. I am 30 and I know many people around my age and older who have read these and love them. And who can't wait to see the first movie and all the rest of the books made into movies!

  1. Carissa Says:

Ok I'm going to say that people have their own opinions, I get that but unless you want to be bashed by a bunch of Twilighters you probably shouldn't voice those negative opinions around so many people who love the books. I'll admit at first the whole Vampire love thing didn't appeal to me until one of my roomies told me to read it and I fell in love. Of all 4 books, New Moon was my least favorite and just like most other girls, I wanted Edward to come back but if they just completely took out the middle part of the book with Jacob, new Twilighters who haven't read the book won't get what Bella had to go through and how Jacob, whether you liked him or not, helped Bella through Edwards absence.

As for calling it a Tween book, I don't agree with that at all. Most of the people I know who read the Sage are finished with their teenage years. It's a good book, yes it has flaws but none of your papers from school were perfect either so enough with giving Stephenie crap about it. It's not a big deal...it didn't completely screw up the books with little misspelled words, or sentences that didn't make 100% perfect sense. Regardless of whether it's like the classics or not, be happy children are finding something interesting to read. Even if it is fiction, about supernatural characters, it shows them reading can be fun, and love is not something you only see on tv.

The movie...I think won't be the book for sure, but no movie adaptations of books are ever the same, but being an "indie" production company and a fairly new director, I believe Catherine Hardwicke is doing a wonderful job and I'm going to see the movie in just a few hours because I am a Twilight fan and I don't care what others think about that, whether they like it or not.
