Yet another movie is making a move to fill the void left by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’s departure for summer. This time it’s Baz Luhrman’s epic Australia.
The film was originally set for release on November 14th, but now they’re moving it to November 26th, five days after Harry Potter would have debuted on the 21st, had it not been moved. Without the Potter juggernaut to steal your cash, Australia doesn’t have to worry about trying to get its share before Potter hits theaters. It’ll be easier fending off Bolt and Twilight, which are now opening on the 21st instead.
Three other movies are also scheduled to open that day, but aside from Transporter 3, I doubt any of them will provide much comptetition. It’s a minor date shift, but one that puts Australia in theaters the day before Thanksgiving. Given the choice, I’d rather spend my post-turkey reverie’s watching Hugh Jackman in a cowboy hat than hanging out with Twilight’s toothless vampires or Bolt’s deluded John Travolta… er John Travolta voiced dog.
