The Wachowskis may have found their Racer X. The Hollywood Reporter says that ‘Lost’ star Matthew Fox is in final negotiations to play Speed Racer’s nemesis in the Wachowsi brother directed movie version of the once popular cartoon series Speed Racer. They’ve also cast a guy named Kick Gury to play Speed’s hippie mechanic Sparky. With a name like “Kick”, he should make a spectacular hippie.
As for Matthew Fox, I have a really hard time picturing him as Racer X. It just seems like such a bizarre leap from playing Jack on ‘Lost’. I can’t think of two characters who could possibly have less in common. You certainly can’t say Matthew isn’t stretching himself, I’m just not sure what he’s stretching himself into. Probably six months of sitting on egg crates in front of a blue screen and pretending to drive a car.
With the addition of Fox all the principle parts in Speed Racer; unless they plan to hire someone to play Speed's monkey pal Chim-Chim. Note to the Wachowskis: Chris Kattan isn’t doing anything. Meanwhile, Emile Hirsch has already been cast to play Speed Racer, Christina Ricci is Trixie, and John Goodman and Susan Sarandon are Speed Racer’s parents.
