Terrence Howard Replaced In Iron Man 2

By Josh Tyler: 2008-10-14 03:43:46
Terrence Howard Replaced In Iron Man 2 For anyone looking forward to Terrence Howard’s “next time” in Iron Man 2, there’s bad news. HR reports that Howard is out of the sequel and Don Cheadle is in instead.

In Iron Man, Terrence Howard played Tony Stark’s friend Jim Rhodes. In the comics, Rhodes eventually dons his own suit of power armor to fight alongside Tony, a future alluded to by Howard’s “next time” line in the first film. Howard himself, had seemed enthusiastic about the possibility of a growing role in the future of Iron Man. Unfortunately, it seems things have fallen apart and Marvel has gone with a cheaper option. Surprisingly, that option is Don Cheadle.

Though any fan of the franchise will no doubt hate to see Howard replaced, you really can’t go wrong by replacing him with Cheadle, every bit his equal when it comes to acting chops. From a talent perspective, this is a lateral move, and luckily too since Rhodes is expected to play a bigger role in the sequel. Whether that means he’ll actually get to go superheroing with Tony remains to be seen.

The rest of the cast however, is headed back on to Tony Stark’s superhero stripper pole. Favreau is of course directing with Robert Downey Jr. starring as Tony. Gwyneth Paltrow is also likely to return as plucky girl love interest Pepper Potts.

HUZZAH! Terrance Howard was too damn effeminate to be Rhodey, much less War Machine. Good job recasting Favs!

  1. Rodney Foster Says:

This is unbelievable. What terrible news. I cannot believe that Marvel would do this. Terrence did such a great job in the first movie, and he would have been incredible as War Machine. Why would Marvel risk messing with an enormously successful franchise in Iron Man for Don Cheadle? I mean, the first movie almost made $600 million worldwide and Terrence got great reviews for his performance and fans seem to really be happy with Terrence. This is extremely disappointing news.

  1. emily Says:

    Noooooooooooooo!!!!!!!

  1. Bradon Willis Says:

I hope this is a joke -- why recast what's going to be a hugely successful franchise??? This is upsetting and I hope there's something that can be done about this!

  1. emily Says:

Effeminate? Compared to Don Cheadle? Seriously? You're just jealous because he has really pretty eyes. *sigh* his eyes are so pretty.

    We'll miss you, "hum-drum-v!"

And anyways, who says Favreau is responsible for this, it sounds like the studio, NOT Jon Favreau.

  1. Jake Says:

Nooooo! Boo! I really liked Terrance Howard and this move will totally F-up the continuity! Now I'm gonna sit through the entire movie bummed out. It's not like Terrance Howard made the movie great, but I really liked him as Rhodey.

  1. Kris Says:

This is most upsetting to me. C'mon Marvel! Keep Terrance Howard. The worst thing you can do to a movie franchise is replace actors! The thing that made me mad about Dark Knight was that they replaced Katie Holmes. In Mummy 3, they replaced Brandon Fraiser's wife! I HATE IT when movies do that. Marvel should keep Terrance Howard because that is who they opened Rhodey's character with. I liked Terrance Howard. BRING HIM BACK!

  1. ProeTry Says:

This is very disappointing to me because Terrence Howard did such a great job and to recast to another actor is a terrible move.... So many poeple will be dissapointed because they especially me was looking for the War Machine to be played by Terrence Howard who originally played in the first 600 million dollar movie..... Such a shame but i know that i will not be seeing this movie changed with a second movie. Come on it is not like how they did The Incredible Hulk the entire cast was changed with different filiming crew and everything.

Very very very bad move come on with damn near a billion dollars coming back to them why complain about a simple financial problem..... All I have to say is WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW...........!!!!!!!!!!

  1. Sam Says:

People! We really don’t know what has transpired behind the scenes. Whatever the case may be, “visually” it is a complete mismatch that the franchise is really gonna have to work to make right. What makes a star a star is his swagger. Swagger is defined as one who is male that has an auroa of coolness, hipness and reserved attitude in his mannerisms. Cheadle films have been critically acclaimed and I like him as an actor, but he and Terrance don’t resemble each other at all. Cheadle is dark skinned along the lines of Wesley Snipes and Terrance is lighter skinned, reminscient of Gary Dourdain and Common: so now the studio is really gonna have to rely on something to make it work without slightly damaging the franchise(the script, Cheadle acting, wardrobe, etc…to pull it off!!!!) Cheadle is also considerably far behind Terrance in possessing that off screen red carpet, ladies man appeal. Does Cheadle really look like he could save you ladies, despite being covered in metal? Even Tobey Macquire in costume had swagger.
Terrance and Robert were an on-screen pairing that came across as they really looked like they could hangout as best friends in real life and that is what people look for in superhero films, real life studio effects which is another topic!! Maybe Terrance had too much on screen swagger, and the franchise is going for that Batman and Robin theme, despite Downey being the franchise star. Who knows, even if Terrance did ask for too much money they should worked out something because now they have a , “visual” challenge on their hands.

  1. Jay Says:

It doesn't make sense to change, what already works. Terrance Howard had great chemistry with Robert Downey Jr. I can't believe Marvel would let this happen!

  1. SirPotier-J Says:

Hey, everyone who is reading this, post comments all over the web (like nearly every web site you come across) to get Terrance Howard back please.

  1. Lorraine Says:

This is a problem I will not support this kind of Movie politics, we will boycott for Terrance Howard and any other contract that are broken in Holly-weird. There's only one God and this ain't it.

  1. Iron jam Says:

    Why Why!!!!!!!!!!!!!
fuck you Don Cheadle,,,and fuck you to Marvel!!!!
    motherfucker
