12 Days Of Christmas: White Christmas

By Rafe Telsch: 2007-12-16 15:50:45
12 Days Of Christmas: White Christmas It’s time to celebrate the Christmas/ Chanukah/ Kwanza/ Festivus Holiday season, so here at Cinema Blend we’re enjoying Twelve Days of Christmas. Yes, we know traditionally the “12 days” start with Christmas, but we plan on being celebrated out by that time, so we’re pushing the twelve days leading up to the holiday.

Here at Cinema Blend, we’re celebrating by revisiting some of our favorite holiday movies. These aren’t the 12 best movies out there by any means, just twelve of our favorites. Some of them you might enjoy like we do. Others you might want to check out for the first time.

On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…

Bing Crosby creating a Christmas classic

It’s time to get a little classic with the 12 days of Christmas, and nothing says classic Christmas like Bing Crosby. I know some people who just don’t consider it to be Christmas until they hear Bing’s crooning (frankly, I’m the same way, just with the Chipmunk’s Christmas song).

1954’s White Christmas is definitely dated and kind of hokey at times, but it’s still enjoyable nonetheless. It’s almost a shame we don’t get musical reviews like this anymore – movies that aren’t afraid to unite talent solely for the sake of a few good performance numbers. Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye are quite the memorable team (although I’d argue Crosby and Rosemary Clooney make a better pair) and, while it may lack some of the charm of the original Fred Astaire classic Holiday Inn on which it’s based, you can’t deny that the title song has outgrown the movie. Even people who have never seen Bing Crosby’s picture know the song. If you’re one of those, you might consider adding this to your holiday viewing.

That classic holiday moment… The performance of the title song – Duh!
