4 Possible Justice League Titles, And What They Could Mean

Warning: this article is jam-packed with spoilers for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, so read at your own risk!

DC’s Trinity finally came together during the climax of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, but even greater threats than Lex Luthor and Doomsday are looming. Bruce Wayne has seen a glimpse of the future, and he knows that the world needs the Justice League now more than ever. With that in mind, comic book fans have begun the anxious wait for Justice League Part One to hit theaters in 2017.

However, we now know that "Part One" is only a placeholder for the film’s true, unconfirmed subtitle. Heroic Hollywood has just reported that four separate subtitles for the coming Justice League movie have potentially leaked, and each one points towards some truly distinct and engaging thematic ideas for the film to explore. We should note that these titles could be completely bogus, but if they’re real, they could mean that some awesome DC adventures are still on the way. Now let’s get started with the shortest and simplest of the potential subtitles.

Justice League: United

Tony Stark said it best during the events of The Avengers; it takes a while for a superhero team to really gain any traction. A title like Justice League: United seemingly indicates that a major theme of the Justice League movie will revolve around the titular team learning to work with one another, and play off of each other's strengths. They might not work well with one another, but the looming threat of enemies like Steppenwolf and Darkseid will require them to cooperate with one another in order to protect their homeworld. By the climax of the film we could see them standing shoulder to shoulder, united.

Justice League: Angels and Demons

No, we don’t think bestselling author Dan Brown has anything to do with this potential film. If the Justice League movie opts to utilize Angels and Demons, then it would stand to reason that the movie would explore the sharp dichotomy between the wholly righteous members of the League, and the demonic presence of the looming threat posed by Darkseid, Steppenwolf, and the forces of Apokolips. We’ve already seen hellish imagery in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice teasing the impending arrival of Darkseid’s forces (the aptly named "Parademons") so this subtitle could take that religious connotation to the next logical step.

Justice League: Gods Among Us

The only entry on this list that seems to point towards a direct adaptation of an existing property, Justice League: Gods Among Us takes its name from the wildly popular Injustice: Gods Among Us video game and comic book series. It’s a complex narrative, but the overall story revolves around the Justice League being transported to an alternate world where Superman has gone rogue and become a tyrannical dictator. It’s possible that The Flash’s cameo in Dawn of Justice may have hinted at this potential storyline, but it’s still a bit odd when we consider that Injustice really requires the Justice League to already exist when the story starts in order to properly work. That being said, we would love to see this story brought to life on the big screen.

Justice League: Gods Among Men

Unlike Gods Among Us, Gods Among Men doesn’t necessarily have any basis in any DC source material, but it could nevertheless point to an interesting overall storyline for the first Justice League movie. Batman V Superman never really gave audiences a satisfying conclusion to the question of the world’s perception of the growing metahuman population. Sure, they mourned Superman, but plenty of people still fear what these godlike beings can do. With a potential subtitle like Gods Among Men, a major thematic aspect of the coming Justice League movie could revolve around the world’s growing acceptance and adoration of the heroes who protect them. This wouldn’t even be too far off from the recent Justice League: War animated feature, which saw the Justice League go from outlaws to beloved heroes through the course of Darkseid’s invasion of Earth.
