41 Songs In Play For Best Original Song Oscar![]()
The Academy has finally released a list of the tracks in contention to be nominated for Best Original Song at the upcoming Oscar ceremony. 41 are in play this year, with several films including Country Strong, Burlesque and Despicable Me sporting two potential nominees. The one real surprise here is that Tangled's “I See The Light” is the only track from the film making the cut. I think I speak for most people when I say the barbarian-themed “I've Got A Dream” was the real musical highlight of the recent Disney flick. (UPDATE: Turns out Disney only submitted "i See The Light" to avoid competing with themselves; more info here). Here's a full list of those in consideration:
"Alice" from Alice in Wonderland The voting process works a little differently with Best Original Song. The voting members actually all attend a screening where they're shown clips of each song. After viewing all the potential nominees, the judges then rate each one. Depending on the results of that vote, there can be anywhere between 0 and 5 actual nominees, based on how many songs scored above an 8.25. If you or someone you know has written one of these hot tracks, there's still plenty of time to campaign. Voting takes place on January 6th, 2011, well ahead of the February 27th Oscar ceremony. |
