5 Bombshells The X-Men: Apocalypse Trailer Just Dropped

The world needs the X-Men. Now, more than ever. Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac), the world’s oldest mutant, has arisen. And he’d like to take everything that humanity has built, and tear it down so that mutantkind can rise up from the ashes. The final X-Men: Apocalypse trailer just landed, and it’s the best version we’ve seen yet. It’s also loaded with goodies, which we will explore in detail. First, the trailer:

Did you make it all the way to the end of that clip? If so, then you know that our first major X-Men bombshell included in the Apocalypse trailer HAS to be this one:

Wolverine will be in this movie

You got that right. After weeks of rumors, and news of possible reshoots, we got our first visual confirmation that Wolverine will be in X-Men: Apocalypse. Now, what we DON’T know, for certain, is whether or not it’s going to be Hugh Jackman who will play him. Yes, the actor shared the clip of the popping claws on his Twitter page. But we don’t see Jackman. And the actor has been saying that Wolverine 3 will be his next, and final, appearance as Weapon X. So, what do you think of this juicy cameo?

Mystique is this team’s new leader

The plot of X-Men: Apocalypse appears to be a rescue mission. Charles (James McAvoy) has been abducted by Apocalypse (Isaac) and his Four Horsemen. That means Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) has to step up as the unifier, and the battle trainer, for this young breed of X-Men heroes. When Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee) meets Mystique, he’s in awe that it’s really her. And when Cyclops explains that some of them don’t even know how to control their powers, Mystique tells him, "Then don’t." This isn’t Charles’ steady leadership, and I wonder how that dynamic will affect this newly formed team.

Magneto is Quicksilver’s daddy

Perhaps one of the worst secrets in the X-Men universe. This was hinted at in X-Men: Days of Future Past, but now that Quicksilver (Evan Peters) is back for more action, the actor is able to share a scene where he explains to Mystique that Magneto is his father. He even has a biology lesson for Raven, which the semi-blue mutant doesn’t need. We can only hope that there’s some emotional significance to this reveal, and that Quicksilver will attempt to bring his dad back over to the good side. Though, thanks to our next point, we also know that this probably won’t be possible.

Magneto buried his family…

…and the way that he words that statement to Charles (McAvoy) makes us think that he has human antagonists to blame for this atrocity. We have known for some time now that Magneto (Michael Fassbender) would become one of Apocalypse’s Four Horsemen, alongside Storm, Angel and Psylocke. But with Charles perpetually fighting for the spirit and soul of his old chum, Erik, what could have pushed Magneto past the point off no return. When Charles begs Erik not to join Apocalypse, Magneto tells him that whatever he once thought he saw in his former friend is now long gone, and it’s because he has lost his family. Magneto blames humans for the hardships of mutants, and we’re going to see something terrible go down in Apocalypse to push the villain over the edge.

The X-Mansion likely is going bye-bye

This "explosion" shot has been part of multiple clips and trailers, and based on everything that we see, we’re ready to proclaim that the X-Mansion is going to explode. That shot that you see above has several children getting caught in the blast. They have to be students of Xavier. We also, in the way this footage is cut, see boots of a character running through the fiery wreckage, and I’m going in record to guess that it’s Quicksilver (who we also see sprinting through the mansion in a brief snippet). Also, look at this shot.

That has to be Xavier’s School For Gifted Mutants falling at the feet of Apocalypse. Right? That’s our guess. We’ll know for sure once X-Men: Apocalypse opens on May 27. But for now, this new trailer has us jacked up for the next chapter in the Marvel Mutant Saga. What about you?
