The cast has officially been assembled for the psychological thriller, 13. Variety announces that Ray Liotta, Ray Winstone, Jason Statham, 50 Cent and Sam Riley will round out the cast that sounds… totally badass.
The film is a remake of the French movie 13 Tzameti, which won all sorts of awards back in 2005 when it came out. The newest script was written by the Frenchie who penned the original screenplay. Hopefully too much won’t be lost in translation. The plot follows a young man who takes directions intended for someone else and ends up falling into a room where a group of men gamble on the lives of other men. It sounds a little like Eyes Wide Shut put through an Amores Perros blender. Sam Riley, who recently played the lead in the Joy Division biopic Control, will star as the young man. Mickey Rourke will play a criminal that has been sold as a pawn while Mr. 50 Cent himself (Righteous Kill) escorts him to the games. Stathem will be a wealthy man set to bet on other man’s lives. All the while, Ray Liotta plays a cop following Riley’s character in an attempt to crack the case. If these actors play true to their film heritage, this movie will be filled to the brim with badassery. Rorke, Liotta, and Stathem alone could easily carry the whole movie. But to add Winstone and 50 Cent ups the stakes. If Riley doesn’t play the lead as a limp wimp, this movie could be a full blown psychological trip worth having. I’m betting on it. |
