The Day the Earth Stood Still remake seems to be taking a completely different, possibly less cerebral direction than the movie on which it’s based. The story may have changed, but they do seem to be doing a pretty decent job of capturing the feel of classic science fiction, using slick modern techniques.
That’s especially evident in the new, 5-minute trailer for the film which has just been released. The movie’s soundtrack is filled with strange, creepy alien sounds that sound like they might have dropped right out of a 1950s serial. At times, the way it cuts from one point of view to another, feels like a complete throwback to another era, but done up with modern whiz-bang effects. If that’s the movie we’re getting, then suddenly I’m excited about Day the Earth Stood Still.
