Grown Ups seems kind of like Couples Retreat with kids. A bunch of celebrity friends decided they’d like to hang out somewhere for free, so they concoct a movie to do together. I’d be a lot more interested in that concept if a few modifications were made to the cast. For starters, where’s Kevin Nealon? And come on, someone really needs to find a way to resurrect Chris Farley from the dead. Seriously, let’s get on that.

Instead we’ll get Kevin James, who’s not nearly so good at playing the fat friend. Maybe that doesn’t matter. In the five clips from the film we have for you below, Grown Ups seems to be more about how horrible it is to have kids, than it is about a group of friends reuniting for a weekend. Maybe this is more Daddy Day Camp than it is Couples Retreat. Neither prospect is particularly encouraging, but I’m still holding out hope that this late-life SNL reunion will work. Watch:
