You wouldn’t expect a poster advertising the upcoming Oscars to be a big deal. After all, it’s an annual event and it’s even questionable as to how this year’s events are going to occur. Still, in recent years the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have really put out some cool pieces of artwork to promote the annual awards gala. This year isn’t much different.
Taking its inspiration from the Star Wars prequel posters, this year’s poster is designed by Drew Struzan, who designed the one-sheets for Lucas’s trilogy, and executed by his son, Christian Struzan. It’s not as spectacular as the Alex Ross Batman inspired poster we got a few years ago, but it’s still pretty shiny.
Prints of the poster are available for sale at the official Oscar website, Oscars.org. They are on high quality paper, which is a bit disappointing - it’s a shame these aren’t being put out with some lithographic effect. I would really think about picking one up if it really glittered.
