A Blake Lively-Starring Sex And The City Prequel In The Works?![]()
After making only $95 million domestically on a $100 million budget and getting absolutely trounced by critics, Sex and the City 2 was seen as a disappointment by nearly everyone in Hollywood (the film did make $193 million overseas). Most assumed the HBO series-turned-franchise was over, but never underestimate a studio's love of a recognizable brand.
Grazia is reporting a rumor that a Sex and the City prequel is now in the works that would have Gossip Girl's Blake Lively star as a young Carrie Bradshaw. The movie would be based on the Candace Bushnell bestselling book The Carrie Diaries, which tells the story of the character in her teenage years. Said an insider, “There are no plans to bring SJP and the other girls back together in the old format. The prequel is about breathing new life into the story and exploring Carrie’s first few months in NYC and the beginning of her relationship with an older man.” Just to make it perfectly clear, let me spell out what this rumor is about: a new movie based on an established series that will eliminate three out of the four main characters and have a new actress play the one that remains. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like the only connection to the Sex and the City franchise is that Blake Lively's character will be named Carrie Bradshaw. Those little problems aside, let's pray that this is just a rumor and that an idiotic premise like this never comes to pass. |
