A New Look At Indiana Jones![]()
Vanity Fair has gotten quite the cover story this month, with a look behind the scenes of what is arguably this year’s most anticipated movie: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. They’ve got everything – pictures, interviews with all the major players, even a fascinating review of the history of the franchise coming to be. It’s a great read.
I’ve got to be honest, some resoundingly stupid rumors aside, I’m looking forward to seeing Indy in action again. Their image of Cate Blanchett as Russian Agent Spalko (the first I think that has been released) is enough to guarantee my rear will be in a seat on opening day. I think the smartest thing done in this interview is not trying to hide Harrison Ford’s age. With nineteen years having passed since the last chapter was in theaters, many are fearing Indy may be too old for another adventure. Instead they are embracing that age difference, and while Ford is trying to downplay it a bit, stating that all he needs is to put the costume on to find the character, most people have accepted it. I still think every review will mention Ford’s age, for good or no, but the studio isn’t trying to hide it. At the same time, there’s still no confirmation to the news that everyone has accepted at this point – Shia LaBeouf playing Indy’s son. Why is this being denied – or, at the very least, not confirmed? Are we all on the wrong track with the rumor, and Lucas and Spielberg are just having some fun with us?
