AFI's Top Ten image
The American Film Institute is kind of like the slightly more respectable film version of VH1, handing out all kinds of movie lists and countdowns and they've announced their top ten movies for the year. Only 2 out of 3 of this year's political activist driven films (Good Night, and Good Luck and Syriana) made it in (no love for Charlize Theron in North Country). Here's the list (in alphabetical/numerical order).

Don't look for any numbers rankings. AFI doesn't try to number the top films, they just skim what they consider to be the cream off the top and serve it up for your consideration. Crash made it onto the list, so all is well.

AFI Outstanding Movies of 2005

Brokeback Mountain
Capote
Crash
Good Night, and Good Luck
A History of Violence
King Kong
Munich
The Squid and the Whale
Syriana
The 40 Year-Old Virgin
