There are great movies that can be made based on the father-daughter dynamic. How could an adult male possibly know what a young girl is going through during adolescence? Sure, there are some connections that can be made, but overall growing up as a boy and a girl are two completely different experiences. As hard as it must be already, I can imagine it would only become more of a challenge if the dad is a rock star who doesn't know he has a daughter and then one day she's just dropped in his lap. Such is the case in David M. Rosenthal's Janie Jones.

In the film, Alessandro Nivola plays Ethan Brand, a struggling musician whose life is changed completely when a former partner (Elizabeth Shue) reveals that he has a daughter (Abigail Breslin) and then leaves her in his care. The movie is being distributed by Tribeca Film and today the first trailer has arrived online. Check it out:



Our own Perri Nemiroff actually saw the film at this year's Tribeca Film Festival and said that while the story is predictable, Abigail Breslin absolutely steals the show. It's strange to think that just five years ago she was playing a chubby little girl named Olive who traveled with her family in a Volkswagen bus to get to a beauty pageant. Breslin has really come into her own and she looks great her. The trailer seems to give away a lot, but it's pretty easy to tell where this story is going anyway. The movie is set to be released on October 28th.
