Actors Plan For Strike Vote

By Ed Perkis: 2008-11-23 17:27:17
Actors Plan For Strike Vote Everyone sure loved the writer’s strike, am I right? Of course. There was nothing better than having your favorite television shows go off the air and having to watch more reality programming. We also weren’t spared Step Up 3, so what good came out of it? Nothing, that's what. Unfortunately, Hollywood loves them a sequel and they are planning a doozy.

As is being reported everywhere, including the Los Angeles Times, the Screen Actor’s Guild is planning to take a strike authorization vote from their members. If more than 75% of the voters approve a strike and the union’s board agrees, then the actors could walk out sometime early next year. First the union leadership would put out what it calls a “full-scale education campaign." I’d like to suggest the education be flyers that say “vote for a strike, dipshit,” but they may go for a more low-key approach.

The move towards a strike came after negotiations with a federal mediation type guy failed to produce a contract. The last contract expired June 30th. The actors want more say in Internet revenues or a bigger piece of the DVD pie. Management is telling them to pound sand on both, thus, here we are. No guesses on what the actors will do, but since every other union has managed to come to terms with management on these issues, it’s not likely they will get the same support from the public the writer’s did. Hopefully a last minute detail can be worked out. I’d hate to think anything would slow down the Twilight sequel.
