Aja Loves Remakes![]()
Whew, talk about another promising horror director who has done nothing but disappoint. French director Alexandre Aja, of the horribly disappointing High Tension and the amoral The Hills Have Eyes remake, is poised to remake another horror film, this time the Korean movie Into the Mirror. The American Mirrors just picked up Amy Smart (Crank) to join Kiefer Sutherland and Paula Patton, reports Bloody-Disgusting.com.
In Mirrors, a security guard is swept up by mysterious murders involving a high-end department store’s mirrors. Typically, these Asian films sound horrible on paper and then are executed masterfully by their original directors. When the films are adapted to America, they are dumbed-down and given a fresh gloss of “who gives a shit?” But with Aja behind the lens, there’s room for hope. Despite the endlessly lame twist and missteps of High Tension, most horror fans aren’t willing to let go of the first 30 minutes of that film – when the tension was, indeed, high and the gore delivered like no other. Unfortunately, The Hills Have Eyes remake was only filled with gore and nothing of Aja’s tension. Come Aja, third time’s a charm. |
