Akiva Goldsman Making Directing Debut With Man And Wife![]()
Akiva Goldsman is famous and regarded for his work as a screenwriter, but lately his name has popped up as a director, most notably when he was in the running to direct Paranormal Activity 2 for some reason. Now the writer of A Beautiful Mind and I Am Legend seems to have found a directing project that's more in line with his experience.
According to Deadline Hollywood, Goldsman has closed the deal with 20th Century Fox to direct Man and Wife, a drama about an assassin who falls in love with the family he's been hired to kill. I can't think of a movie with this exact plot, but at the same time it feels familiar, which again makes this seem like perfect material for Goldsman. Despite his writing experience Goldsman will be ceding script duties to Jason Keller, who is rewriting the original draft by Alan McElroy. I think it's fair to be skeptical of Goldsman's pending directing skills, since writers-turned-directors don't fare well that often, but consider this: Goldsman has had a long Hollywood career and has worked with some notable directors, most prominently Ron Howard. You have to assume he's picked up a fair amount of skills along the way. Will Man and Wife prove he's a directing genius? Probably not. But all that time spent on movie sets may yield better results than you're expecting. |
