What's with all of the action movies starring old people? The trend began in 2009 when Sly Stallone and his action buddies from the 80s starred together in The Expendables and continued later that year when Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, and John Malkovich played in Red. It's continuing this year with The Expendables 2, which has brought on even more older faces, and now Al Pacino, Christopher Walken, Alan Arkin are getting into the game.

The three actors - who are an average age of 72 - have all signed on to star in Stand Up Guys, an action/comedy from director Fisher Stevens (yes, Short Circuit Fisher Stevens). Based on an original script by Noah Haidle and formally titled Old Timers, the story is about two aging criminals who find themselves in trouble when one is hired to kill the other. Knowing their fate, they decide that they will have a huge final night together, which involves brothels, grand theft auto, and police chases. THR doesn't say which actors will play which roles. The movie is scheduled to start production this April in Los Angeles.

It's been so damn long since Pacino has done anything worth watching, but hopefully this will be the project that will pull him out of his slump. Arkin and Walken are always great to see on screen, and it will be even better to see all three of them together. The question is who should play the main two guys?
