When you think of the word "badass," Albert Brooks isn't the first thing that comes to mind. He's not exactly Samuel L. Jackson. Brooks is funny and he can act frustrated better than most, but badass he is not. Don't tell Nicolas Winding Refn.

Deadline reports that Brooks has joined the cast of Refn's Drive alongside Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan and Bryan Cranston. In the film, Brooks will play a New York mobster named Bernie Rose that travels to LA and is, presumably, the film's villain. The plot of the movie centers on Gosling's character, a stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway driver.

Brooks is a good actor, but this is as against type as you can get. The only words in that last paragraph that fit with Brooks are "New York" and that's only because he's Jewish (he actually grew up in Los Angeles). I've never been one to doubt someone's ability until they have proven they don't have any, so go ahead, Mr. Brooks. Let's see you wave around a gun and make people shit their pants. I actually can't wait.
