Alec Baldwin And Rory Culkin Attached To Star In Hick![]()
If you head over to Amazon and read the plot description for the Andrea Portes book Hick, you'd be amazed that they're actually adapting it to be a movie. A story of abuse, neglect, violence, guns, rape, drugs and violence all involving a thirteen year old girl, one wonders how they actually plan on getting it past the MPAA. The answer? Turn it into a something more family friendly.
The Playlist has received a press release regarding the upcoming film, which will be directed by Lymelife's Derick Martini, and while the story points out that both Alec Baldwin and Rory Culkin have joined the cast, the plot description makes it sound like adaptation is in name only. According to the release, Hick is a "stylish, often funny and a heartfelt coming-of-age story about 13 year old Luli’s life on the road. Whatever is thrown at young Luli only makes her stronger and more defiant, and yet somehow she is able to remain undefeated and undeterred from her goal for a better life." In addition to Baldwin and Culkin, the film stars Chloe Moretz, Blake Lively, Ray McKinnon, Juliette Lewis and Eddie Redmayne. If this is, in fact, a faithful adaptation, then that is the most misleading logline of all time. Hick will be headed to the Cannes Film Festival later this month in search of buyers, and is expected to be released sometime in 2012. |
