In addition to being an amazing actor, Alec Baldwin has a reputation as a raging liberal. But even he will only take his liberalism so far.
Alec is set to be the narrator on a new documentary about the rise to political power of Arnold Schwarzenegger. He's already recorded his tracks, but now Variety says he wants them taken out.
The movie is called Running with Arnold, and Canteen Boy's buddy says the filmmakers went way too far. The film reportedly uses images of Nazi rallies in telling Arnold's stories. Whenever Nazis come into play you can throw any pretense of objectivity right out the window.
Alec agrees. Apparently he figured out something was wrong while recording his tracks and says he was "somewhat dismayed by some of the images." It sounds like he's trying to be incredibly responsible about this. "The filmmakers hammer Schwarzenegger over his private behavior and his record as governor," he says. That's fair. After all, he's a public, political figure. However he adds: "But Schwarzenegger deserves to be treated fairly and the film's images of Nazi rallies were over the line." Sounds like they've skewed into the realm of blatant anti-Arnie propaganda.
Of course you have to wonder why he kept narrating if the images he saw on screen were so out of whack. But if the movie really took him that much by surprise, perhaps he simply wasn't sure how to react until he had a minute to think about it later on.
So far, the only response from the film's producer Mike Gabrawy is to say they didn't go far enough. "There's a lot more we could've done," he says. No word on if they'll comply and take Alec's famous voice out, though distribution on the movie is moving ahead.
