Donnie Darko has decided to stop chasing big scary rabbits and start chasing serial killers.
According to Movieweb, Jake Gyllenhaal has signed on to star in David Fincher's new serial killer thriller Zodiac. He will be joined by fellow thespian brunettes Robert Downey Jr and Mark Ruffalo.
Fincher, the great mind behind Fight Club and Se7en, is directing another picture tinkering on the dark side, and we wouldn't want it any other way. The film is about the real-life mysterious Zodiac Killer who terrorized San Francisco beginning in the 1960's, leaving a trail of corpses in his path. He got his kicks by communicating with authorities through the use of the San Francisco Chronicle, leaving reporters Graysmith (Gyllenhaal) and Avery (Downey Jr) desperate to uncover his identity. Ruffalo plays the leading investigator of the case.
Jamie Vanderbilt (Darkness Falls) will write the script, and Phoenix Pictures is set to begin production in mid-August. Robert Graysmith's two books "Zodiac" and "Zodiac Unmasked", which inspired the creation of the movie, will be referenced thoroughly during production.
Halleluyah! 2005 may be a good year for cinema after all.
