Hugh Jackman is planning another action flick with Fox. His production company has made a deal to turn the Robert Littell spy novel "The Amateur" into a film for Hugh according to Variety.

Evan Katz, who writes for TV's '24', will adapt the script. The book is about a CIA cryptographer whose fiancée is killed in a suspicious plane crash. He investigates and discovers terrorists were responsible, and decides to train himself to exact revenge.

'The Amateur' has been a movie before. Back in 1981 Christopher Plummer and John Savage starred in it. This new version isn't a remake, just another adaptation of the book. Even if it was a remake, it's not like anyone remembers the original.

The idea here is to turn this into another spy franchise, in the model of the Bourne series. Or maybe Jack Ryan is a more appropriate comparison since I doubt Hugh has time to be bogged down forever in yet another franchise.
