Amazing Spider-Man 2 Previews This Week's Trailer With Thrilling Footage

The first full trailer for Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is expected to reach fans on Thursday, Dec. 5. But over the weekend, Sony shared three very quick clips with international audiences, setting up the trailer and giving us a great look at Spidey (Andrew Garfield) in action. The there have been pieced together into a montage, shared by noted Spider-Man fanatic SevenWebHeads on his YouTube page.

One of the greatest effects a Spider-Man movie can replicate is putting audiences in Peter Parker’s point-of-view as he soars through the urban "jungle" of Manhattan. And the first shot in this first tease certainly builds on the effects Sam Raimi tried when he brought Web head to movie screens back in 2002. Remember how cool this looked back then?

I bang on Raimi’s Spidey trilogy, but that flag-pole landing is sick. Webb, of course, took Spidey’s mechanics on step further in the final shots of his reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man.

And he looks to be taking it even further in the footage from Spider-Man 2, with the wind whipping around Spidey’s ears as he freefalls toward the pavement, catching himself on a web-line at the last minute.

What else can we notice? The helicopter distracts us in the second clip, but if you go back and rewatch, you notice that Peter is swinging toward Oscorp tower, solidifying the importance of the controversial company – and the two-headed monsters in the penthouse suite, Norman and Harry Osborn – to the future of the story Webb is trying to tell in this rebooted universe. The third clip, the shortest of the bunch, gives us very little. I’m trying to see if something important is reflected in Spider-Man’s eyes. Can you see anything?

Needless to say, we’ll have a LOT more to discuss regarding The Amazing Spider-Man 2 later this week, when the trailer drops. Look for it here in CinemaBlend, followed by in-depth analysis. Webb’s sequel opens in theaters on May 2, 2014.
