Amazing Spider-Man 2 Trailer Reveals Secret New Viral Site
One of the biggest events in the film world last week was the launch of the first trailer for Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The spot gave us our first real extended look at the movie, giving characters like Electro (Jamie Foxx) and Rhino (Paul Giamatti) their cinematic debut while showing off new versions of both the comic book webslinger (once again played by Andrew Garfield) and the Green Goblin. We gave the preview a thorough analysis of our own after the launch and even the director and stars have given it a break down, but only now has one easy-to-miss Easter Egg been discovered.
SuperHeroHype has discovered a secret URL in the trailer that shows off a new Amazing Spider-Man 2 viral site. Around the 2:06-2:07 minute mark in the spot there is a close-up of Electro's face, and if you look at one of the flashes of light on the right side of the screen you can see a web address ElectroArrives.com. Click on the image below to see the screenshot in high resolution and see if you can spot the hidden secret:
Right now the viral site is pretty barebones, but there is definitely something coming. The site's only page consists of an image of Dane DeHaan's Harry Osborn sifting through some digital pages on his desk, but at the center is a countdown clock. At the time we are reporting this the clock is about 20 days and four hours away from its reveal, which means that we can expect it to hit zero on New Years Eve at 10:00pm EST/7:00pm PST. SHH notes that there has been previous news about Spider-Man having some role in the Ball Drop at Times Square this year, so perhaps that's what the viral site is guiding our attention towards.
In addition to all of the aforementioned stars, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 also stars Emma Stone, Sally Field, Chris Cooper, Colm Feore, B.J. Novak, Felicity Jones and Sarah Gadot, and is based on a script written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. The story finds Peter Parker (Garfield) settling into his double life as a high school student and a superhero, trying to keep a respectful distance from Gwen Stacy (Stone) and reuniting with an old friend (DeHaan) who has been away at private school. Peter continues to dig into the truth about his parents, but as he continues to learn more he discovers that OsCorp seems to be at the center of all the major crime that has been happening in the city.
