I’ve long been a supporter of Amber Heard who, unlike say Blake Lively, has always seemed like she may have genuine talent in addition to non-stop hotness. That’s all too rare in Hollywood’s current class of up and coming twenty-something actresses, which is why she recently ended up on our list predicting Tomorrow’s Tom Cruise. But she hasn’t really had a chance to prove she can act yet, only that she’s willing to do just about anything to get a good role, including but not limited to crazy naked threesomes and dating Seth Rogen. That seems to be paying off, she gets her first starring role this fall in And Soon the Darkness and now Screen Daily says she has another.

Amber is set to star in a thriller called The Applicant for Arclight Films. She’ll play a “stalker student” which is a nice change of pace from the way thrillers usually use women. Normally they’re the ones being stalked, not the ones doing the stalking. Does this mean we’ll get roided-up football players running away from a knife-wielding Amber Heard? I’d like to see that.

I’d be worried that she may end up being stuck in the horror genre, (where so many other talented, beautiful, actresses have gone to be pigeonholed before her), but she already has the decidedly strange Drive Angry 3D coming soon. Besides, at some point some one is finally going to release The Rum Diary in which she stars opposite Johnny Depp as Chenault, the kind of role that might earn someone with talent an Oscar nod, if the movie’s any good at all.
