Hilary Swank’s Amelia Earhart biopic appears to be back on track. The movie was briefly suffering from the lack of a director following Phillip Noyce’s departure from the project – an occurrence that seems to be affecting more movies as of late, despite the writer’s strike limiting available projects.
Moviehole is reporting that the movie will now be helmed by Mia Nair, best known for one of last year’s best movies that you didn’t see, The Namesake. Go check it out on DVD. Everyone I know who’s seen it raves about it.
Swank will play Earhart in Amelia, which will explore the life of the famous pilot, author, and women’s rights pioneer. While I’d love to run the headline that the picture was lost at sea, I’m glad to hear the project has picked up a director again.

My late father, Harry Manning, was to have been Amelia's navigator - before the plane crashed in Hawaii, and he had to return to his ship. She then discarded much navigational equipment so as to lighten the plane. I did meet Elgen Long 2-3 years ago at Hiller Aviation where he gave a very good talk. My (Now) 92 year old mother was there as well.
Please ask Elgen Long if my father will be one of the characters - if so, who will be playing him? I'd be really interested. Thanks.
This is going to be great. My Great Uncle is going to be advising the movie! Elgen Long. He has written books about her. He has been on TV also. He has made many trips in search for her plane. Look him up!
I note the new film about Amelia Earhart. I don't know whether the Director of the film would be interested but my mother, who is 92, is probably the only person still alive who flew with Miss Earhart. My mother was about 12 or 13 years old at the time and went up on a pleasure flight which lasted about 5 minutes. She can recall the flying cap that Miss Earhart wore and looking down and seeing fields like patchwork quilts. The place was at Hornsea in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England and the plane took off and landed on the beach. She recalls that there was another pilot there also taking people up for pleasure flights but she can't remember his name. My mother never flew in an aeroplane again until she flew from Southampton (where she lives) to Jersey (Channel Islands) last year at the age of 91!
