Though it's an adaptation of a book with a cutesy cover featuring a cartoon woman, The Ten Best Days Of My Life might be the book adaptation that gets Amy Adams out of the romantic comedy ghetto she's heading toward. With Julie & Julia and the bizarre-sounding Leap Year on her chick-flick docket, Adams could stand to star in a movie that's actually, y'know, good.
Best Days, according to Variety, will star Adams as a woman who dies and goes to heaven, but before entering must prove herself by recounting her 10 best days in life. Shawn Levy, who made Night at the Museum as well as, uh, Just Married, may direct it, and will definitely produce alongside Adams.
I like the idea of Adams producing-- taking the control of her career she clearly deserves-- and Levy seems like a good if not mindblowing choice. A movie that sounds like it could be a bit dramatic seems like it could bring Adams out of her "cute as a button", naive girl roles, which made her famous but may be holding her back at this point. Now's the time to try for the breakouts.
