Amy Adams Joins Cast Of The Road Director's Next![]()
Given his deft handling of Cormac McCarthy's novel for the big-screen version of The Road, John Hillcoat is earning plenty of deserved attention as a director to watch. Even as The Road was beginning its run in theaters, Hillcoat's next film was getting promoted at the American Film Market-- and subtly, there was some casting news there too.
JoBlo picked up on some info in a poster snagged by Collider at AFM, which confirms that Hillcoat's next film will be called The Promised Land, a change from the title of the novel he's adapting, Matt Bondurant's The Wettest County in the World. While it had been previously reported that Scarlett Johansson would star alongside Shia LaBeouf and Ryan Gosling as a pair of bootlegging brothers during the Depression, it now seems that Amy Adams has taken her place. The real question remains which role Adams will play, given that the original novel doesn't contain much of a female role. How much do you want to bet it'll be some woman who comes between the brothers as they both vie for her heart? Not that I expect Hillcoat to go the easy route-- not to mention singer Nick Cave, who adapted the screenplay. But come on, how many options are there really going to be? |
