Anchorman Sequel Set Photo Suggests New Career For Champ Kind

Whammy! Photos snapped on and around the Atlanta set of Adam McKay’s Anchorman: The Legend Continues suggest an alternate career path for sportscaster Champ Kind, played by the droll David Koechner. L.A. Lakers great Magic Johnson might have movie theaters and Starbucks franchises to his name. Champ has chicken. This photo was shared on Reddit. Check it out:

We know so little about the Anchorman sequel plot, so these little clues have bizarre value. Where is it set? When is it set? We’ve heard rumors that McKay and his ensemble – led by Will Ferrell as egotistical Ron Burgundy – will shift the action from the womanizing 1970s into the superficial 1980s, though that (and everything else that we’ve heard about the movie to this point) can only be viewed as rumors. But damn, these rumors are beyond juicy, from potential Meryl Streep cameos to the presence of sustained musical numbers. And these are on top of the already confirmed stunt casting of Harrison Ford and James Marsden in key roles. So yeah, everything but the kitchen sink.

As for the photo, let’s speculate that Burgundy’s beloved news team has disbanded, with Koechner’s Kind branching off to start a fast-food chain of chicken joints in suburban San Diego. But when a major news event occurs, Ron must reunite the “band,” which also includes Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and Christina Applegate. Or maybe not. I’m spitballing. Yet, when you shoot a movie out in the open, location photos like this are bound to reach the Internet. We’ll see how they fit into the comedy in context when Anchorman: The Legend Continues opens in December.
